I have one of these, it's unplugged at the moment so this is off of memory, but you're looking at about 250-300 watts on low, around 770 watts on medium, and I rarely ever used it on high, but I think it was between 1100 to 1200 watts.

It can also peg around 450-480 watts periodically when settling down from medium to low or when first kicking into low when the compressor surges, and then levels out at around 250-300 watts.

Medium is pretty capable of bringing my living room/kitchen area which is around 400sq ft or so I'd say with other rooms doors shut, from 85 degrees to 76 or so within 30 minutes to an hour.

YMMV depending on your area, it's generally in the high 70's to low 80's outdoor temps here at the moment, but it can reach 95+ in the middle of summer, so I can't comment on those sorts of conditions just yet.

Fan speed settings more or less control compressor load along with it on these units. If you set the fan to low, expect the 250-300 watt load range, medium upper 700 watt range, high over 1K watts. So you can't have for instance just the fan on low and the compressor running at full load, or the fan on high and the compressor at its lowest load, these aren't actually 'smart'. Ceiling fans or floor standing fans will certainly help to distribute the cold air throughout more than one area/room.

Since temps aren't that high yet I generally just have mine in low all the time with continuous fan mode, so when the compressor turns off entirely, the fan still runs at a load of 10 to 12 watts to help with any moisture accumulation in the tank.

If my asshole cats unplug it and the house heats up into the mid 80's I'll run it on medium until it gets down to 76-77 and switch it back to low.

When I get it plugged in again I'll correct any errors I might have made, I put a U-shaped window unit in the living room cause I'm less concerned about my cats messing with that, and will be moving the portable to my bedroom and can recheck the load then.

Same unit sold by Costco which is currently selling for $379 after $100 off. Of course you won't have the generous return policy of Costco but you get the same two year warranty and $130 + tax cheaper.

Note that this is warranted under eBay's Allstate warranty. There's been a lot of posts on SD regarding dealing with Allstate. Like desktops that had to be shipped in the original box and packaging with the keyboard, mouse and any other accessories included.

Seems like a decent deal. Walmart has it for $225, but the warranty or return policy is like 90 days. Much better with 2 year warranty for $25 more. Just wish it was the version with heat also. Woot has the heat version on sale for $300. But that's with pretty much no warranty. Also looking up that model number MAP14AHS1TWT I'm seeing wattage rating of 1300 watts. Is that right for an inverter model? Seems high. Considering I'd mostly just use this in a power outage, and it'd be running off a generator.
The Midea duo is one of the most efficient models available for its size. My central air is only 13 SEER and these are like 19 SEER so they are cheaper to run. I am not sure if mine is the exact model but I have one with heat that I bought from Costco a couple years ago. It runs at 1200w when its at full strength. The inverter makes it more efficient when it isn't under full load. You have to remember this is a 1 ton unit. It can cool a pretty large space. It is overkill for a bedroom. If you put it in a smaller space it will use much less energy though. When it was in the low 90s outside it ran at 1000w to keep my living room with high vaulted ceilings at 72. Yesterday it was 106 and struggling to keep the living room at 76. Thats when it runs at 1200w. I also bought the one listed at Walmart for $225 last week. During the 106 degrees yesterday it kept a 155ft2 bedroom and adjacent bathroom at its lowest temp of 60. I ended up opening the doors and running a fan from it to help cool another room and it still maintained 68 in the bedroom.

I've contemplated buying that same model many times. Could have bought that exact model at Costco at the end of last summer for $299 new. Reviews are mixed on it, as are a lot of the reviews on these types of units. The hisense seems to be a bit on the weak side and seems to have more then its share of failures. Biggest problem I saw several times was its inability to function correctly if it got too hot outside. Maybe they all have a problem with that, I don't really know. But when my family was caught in a three day power outage in the middle of a heat wave last july, Every day was at least a hundred degrees. That scared me away from purchasing that model...
Fair enough, but I didn't do enough research to see the complaints about not cooling when it's too hot outside. I just took a look at that midea pipe and thought to myself, there's no way that's efficient and no way I can fix that at home depot. In the manual it does say if it's above 110F outside, it wont be able to cool.

I contacted the manufacturer last week, and they told me that the unit sold through Walmart has a one year warranty

What in the world... I need something to supplement my house AC when it's that hot. Defeats the whole purpose of this unit...

In my experience, no portable unit has cooled as well, or used less power than a window unit even when the window unit is rated much lower BTU, even half.. Anytime I can mount a window unit I would over a portable. I was just starting to think about this again because I once again have run into the problem, I WFH and its a huge waste to cool the entire house. Now I have started to replace window units with mini splits in most situations. I'm surprised this would be an issue, they heat and cool and fairly compact inside not an eyesore. I personally don't care about how it sticks out the window its just inconvenient that it disables the window's usage for cool natural air. Side slide is as easy to mount as top slide, just buy a 1/4" rod at HD for a few bucks cut to size and it'll hold the AC between the window jam and the window without the need for any external support if single story, I've never had an issue. I'd always used $50 used AC units in these situations. I had sold most of them off... I'm very tempted to make a hole in the wall this time though for a through wall mount. I never really need heat. I guess it'll end up being another minit split at some point.... The only real issue i've had is the window AC is generally at eye level and if its near the front of me it dries my eyes out. Usually not a problem with mini split.
This dual hose inverter is an exception. Its just as efficient and cools as well as a window unit of similar size.

I'm in Florida and in the research process of purchasing a generator for hurricane season. I can purchase a smaller KW generator if I use this instead of my central AC, would this cool at least a living room?

My assumption is that if the outside temp exceeds 110F, you would only receive cooling from a real HVAC system, but others more knowledgeable can comment. I think sub 110temps probably covers the majority of use cases.

I just ordered one from Walmart. This is the third time I've bought this AC. The first one got dirty after a couple of years and quit draining. I couldn't figure out how to take the cover off to clean it without breaking a bunch of plastic clips. The fan is coated with about 3 pounds of cat hair and I can't see the coils. I contacted support to ask them if they had any instructions on how to remove the covers and they told me to pound sand. The second unit I bought is about a year old and it's still working fine, but I couldn't pass up this low price. This weekend I'm going to my storage building and I'm going to take those covers off. I don't care what I have to break to get it done. I'll just duct tape the covers back on if I have to. Smilie
There is a reddit thread and youtube video showing how to take the covers off. Search for "Naked Toshiba/Midea Duo 14000 BTU Inverter Portable Heat Pump" , which is the name of the thread on Reddit. It has pictures of all sides and where the screws/clips are located. I found it, as I was researching a similar unit and bought the one from Woot! earlier this week. The one from the video isn't this exact model, but is a midea duo. Also, it looks like finding a replacement hose is expensive for this unit, if the original breaks. Midea parts has an 84day backlog for the hose and it is $74 without shipping. I love midea products because of how low-noise they are, but the comments on replacement parts / support show they generally just replace the product instead of recommending any type of repair. I have two of their dehumidifiers and they are exceptional. I plan on using this at a cabin in northern Wisconsin, if / when it goes above 80 degrees, and I happen to be there.

That's the thing: when the outside temp is over 110, my HVAC won't cool my house nearly enough.
I guess I need to travel down to Palm Springs to see what kind of ACs they use...

Noted. I will try it since it doesn't require a hole in the wall.

Got this refurb deal last time. Midea did a great job cleaning it up, almost looked new.

Of note, I DID send it back because it increased the humidity in my room for some reason. Even if it was drained. It did do a great job cooling but used a good amount of energy to do so, easily over 1Kw while it was actively cooling down. I now have a Midea U-shaped window unit which is way more energy efficient, but this unit has its own issues with mold and now a possible recall... so pick your poison
