Interesting read here. It's a good view point on the reasons behind having this type of device.

it's a personal entertainment device, not a netbook or a laptop replacement. yes, they did screw the pooch on a few things (no HDMI port, no 4:3, no flash), but i'm sure there's a sizable group who really do want an overgrown iPod touch so they can watch videos properly and read the news without having to worry about formatting or zooming and panning. it's a viable mass-market e-reader (don't pretend the ipod touch is) and has long enough battery life to only need a nightly charge for most users. the app store offers enough application flexibility for the average consumer, though not enough for most here (including me).
with all that's made of the keyboard being crappy (as it is), if used as a personal device, i think the average user's most text-intensive interaction will be instant messaging, which isn't that bad. most outgoing text interactions are now short (facebook updates, blog comments, emails to friends, etc.), so a keyboard isn't a huge deal. again: this is a personal entertainment device, not a workstation.
i will still buy a Sony e-reader before i buy this (if only for the form factor), but if it were a few hundred bucks less, i'd actually give it a look now.
