Someone needs to prove how this really isn't just a giant iPod Touch, because that's all it looks like to me. It will probably sell well anyway, but it's hardly revolutionary.

If it foldable like paper, I will buy it. But I really think bigger screen smartphone with projector is the future. This thing can't be hold with one hand while lying on bed trying to read an ebook or watch porn, etc. Lol.

But I think it will sell, not as hot as iPhone or iPod, yeah liked iMac.

iPad: The gadget we never knew we needed [gizmodo.com]

Interesting read here. It's a good view point on the reasons behind having this type of device.

I wonder if any of the anti-netbook posters who thumbs down every netbook deal will spend twice as much to get one of these.... bounce

So... basically it's useless except in certain situations.
And the kindle is just as useless in some situations. laugh out loud The same with a notebook or a desktop. It's going to be a niche item and I'm actually pretty excited for it. Something that's bigger than an iPod touch/iPhone that I can use for web browsing, book reading, and something that can be used in the kitchen as cookbook. I like it.

after talking through it with a couple people and thinking about it for a day, i now consider it a flawed, yet viable product.

it's a personal entertainment device, not a netbook or a laptop replacement. yes, they did screw the pooch on a few things (no HDMI port, no 4:3, no flash), but i'm sure there's a sizable group who really do want an overgrown iPod touch so they can watch videos properly and read the news without having to worry about formatting or zooming and panning. it's a viable mass-market e-reader (don't pretend the ipod touch is) and has long enough battery life to only need a nightly charge for most users. the app store offers enough application flexibility for the average consumer, though not enough for most here (including me).

with all that's made of the keyboard being crappy (as it is), if used as a personal device, i think the average user's most text-intensive interaction will be instant messaging, which isn't that bad. most outgoing text interactions are now short (facebook updates, blog comments, emails to friends, etc.), so a keyboard isn't a huge deal. again: this is a personal entertainment device, not a workstation.

i will still buy a Sony e-reader before i buy this (if only for the form factor), but if it were a few hundred bucks less, i'd actually give it a look now.

I read that too and yeah those 8 things are also keeping me from jumping on the bandwagon. Don't get me wrong, I know there are issues with this.... but it's still a first gen product. Nothing ever is perfect in a first gen model and everyone's slamming Apple like they just farked up horribly, which despite the iPad's downfalls, I don't think they did. Dontknow
