Spectropure has been around for a very long time, I had some of their original systems back in the early 2000s when they were $500 for pretty much the same system. Yes they make excellent systems but in this day RO systems really have become very common place and there's no reason to spend extra money on a Spectrapure. One could get one of these cheaper systems and just buy their filters when it gets time to replace. Of course just my opinion.
No big difference. Test the TDS, let the data talk.

If you have a granite countertop, is the only option for installation to drill a new hole in the countertop?

I have that express water filter. Been using it since 2021. Very easy to install Bec of color pipes. So much better than fridge water and tastes good. waste a lot of water so I installed a permeate pump next to it. I asked for a diagram for that from express water because I didn't know which pipe should be in and out. I changed all of my filters every year.

There are all-in-one faucets available on Amazon but none of them are from well-known brands like Delta, Pfister, Kohler, etc. from what I've seen and almost all of them are commercial style and 17-18" tall. Try searching for 3-way filtered faucet to find them.

Yep drill a new hole but use the special drill Forgot the name. Used plenty of water so you don't crack it. I drilled mine after watching YouTube. It is easy.

Im in the midst of a kitchen plumbing issue and redo... we are deciding whether to rip out our existing RO and just go again... the filters are proprietary so replacing once would be akin to this entire system....

If you don't mind the hassle and messy of changing filter. These standard RO system is decent. I bought the tankless version for $350 and it's better in my opinion. Also it powered so the flow rate is constant unlike the tank version that relied on pressure. If you use RO a lot then you know the flow rate is important.

Filter replacement price for both version is not that much different for the hassle of replacing it.
Do you need a pressure step up if it routes to fridges with icemakers and water? Im trying to learn and weighing my options if tankless is appropriate.

Universal filters, alkaline water, 100GPD, the way to go. Great deal.
Alkaline water is in your tap water. No need to have an RO system for that. What's the point of filtering it out and then put it back in? OK sure it has lead, mercury, and possibly uranium in it to be filtered out but you don't know what they put into that "Alkaline" cartridge anyway.

A lot of people are saying go tankless. Filters are easier to change but most rankles don't have remineralization. The RO process strips it of minerals

My APEC is awesome. Here's a comparison I found:

Yes - mine is installed on the basement wall below the kitchen. We're on well water so the pressure to the RO ranges between 40-60psi based on the well pump. I wanted it connected to both the fridge and a faucet by the sink. Out of the box, my system largely worked fine but the flow was slow, even at 1/4", and the ice maker struggled (they require 60 psi for the shut off valve to work properly). I upgraded to 3/8" for my distribution lines from the tanks, added a couple of aquatec pumps and a second tank. One aquatec pump pressurizes the water as it enters the system (to compensate for well pressure - RO membrane performs best around 60psi) and a distribution pump that transfers the water from the first to the second storage tank pressurizing it for delivery to the fridge and faucet. It's an involved setup but it's been rock solid for years now. My original base system was from APEC but I sourced the pumps, pressure valves and misc tubing and fittings needed to modify the system from US Water Systems.

The Amazon page list this as the 50gpd system on sale for $151 - List price $269.

The 100gpd is also on sale for $166… list price of $189. Both same Osmosis + Minerals.

Hmmm, wonder why such an inflated list price on this posted Staff deal…

I've had this exact system for 2 years now. Although, I bought the set with replacement filters as well. Im not very handy and could still get it set up in about 2 hours under the sink. Filter changes aren't that bad actually just make sure you keep the tool it comes with and use brute force. Water quality/taste is great compared to the well water in my house. Saved me a good amount in buying bottled water. I can't speak on exact water purification numbers like the amazon reviews tho as I didn't measure the quality myself. Do your research but I did want to at least mention I have it, use it daily, and there is a clear difference in taste to my normal water.

I bought this kit about a year ago but had to return it. The RO pressure tank was too big to fit under my sink. I tried to sell it to a friend but it was too big to go under his sink too. I would have to have cut away the drain pipes or somehow route the lines into a different cabinet to get it to work.

PSA:

NEB: You need to be careful of PFAS or the forever chemical its called. There are plenty of documentaries on youtube that talk about it and its dangers.

You can verify if a water filtration system filters for PFAS by going to the NSF website and verifying the particular model is certified against PFAS. You need to make sure it has the correct cert, i believe its 53 and 58.

My current water filter doesn't filter for it... but my next one, I will try to make sure it does.
