Spectropure has been around for a very long time, I had some of their original systems back in the early 2000s when they were $500 for pretty much the same system. Yes they make excellent systems but in this day RO systems really have become very common place and there's no reason to spend extra money on a Spectrapure. One could get one of these cheaper systems and just buy their filters when it gets time to replace. Of course just my opinion.
No big difference. Test the TDS, let the data talk.

If you have a granite countertop, is the only option for installation to drill a new hole in the countertop?

If you have a basement, put this under the kitchen, rather than use up valuable cabinet space.

I did this but have it plumbed up to my fridge so our drinking water and ice is filtered.

I have been using an RO system for over 20 years. But the membrane for the final filter is very expensive, around $60+, then add the other rope filters it gets pricey.
This setup would not be much more than my filter replacement package, and I get a new tank!!
Hmm

Had anyone done comparison between this and ZeroWater filter? Does this filter water even remotely as good as ZeroWater?

The core component of any reverse osmosis (RO) system is the RO membrane. For home use, when the source water is tap water, the choice of membrane, whether an inexpensive Chinese version or a high-end Dupont model, often rebranded, doesn't make a significant difference. The salt rejection of tap water membranes is typically between 95% and 98%, depending on their quality. If TDS in the feed water is around 300 ppm, the resulting water will be between 6 and 15 ppm, varying slightly based on production rate and temperature. Essentially, both options provide nearly salt-free water.
RO removes all contaminants, including essential minerals such as calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and potassium (K). Post-filters can be added to remineralize the water, with pH filters serving the dual purpose of increasing pH and enhancing taste. However, the primary reason for using RO filtration is the removal of PFAS. In regions with contamination concerns on the East Coast and near air bases RO is a necessity. No other water purification method achieves such a high and consistent removal rate for PFAS as RO does.

Do not touch these tankless systems with a 10ft tent pole.
Tankless RO systems are a MAJOR RIPOFF and will leave you high and dry.
Before you buy, make sure you check the price of the replacement filters.
The filters are usually proprietary nonsense instead of the industry standard filter sizes.
What you don't realize is that if they don't have any filters in stock, you are SOL.
I had a Simpure tankless system and learned the hard way when they had no filters in stock.
Switched to a system with standard industry 10in filters and will never look back.
Never buying a tankless RO system ever again unless it uses standard 10in filters.

Couldn't you hook it up to refrigerator that has water/beverage center?

You could buy a countertop version instead of installing one. Or reroute to your fridge system. That's what we did…so water coming out of the fridge is filtered.

This is a 50 gallon per day system. If you have a household of more than 2, Id recommend upgrading to at least a 75 GPD system and ideally a 100 GPD. If your family uses up all the water in the tank, a 50 GPD system will take FOREVER to refill. I did a ton of research on this and ended up with this one and love it: https://a.co/d/f0UGsw7

Head here https://www.nsf.org/certified-products-systems
Then head to Consumer and Retail Products section > Water Filters (click the link)

Then use the search bar and look at a company you're interested in, in this case it's express water. Finally verify the correct cert. I believe its 58 and 53. Then inspect the table and look for the water filter itself, then check out the details.

Hmm i cannot attach a snippet? but if you follow those steps you'll find some info. Hopefully im write..
Appreciate the head start on this! Looked a bit and it seems like 53 is any type of filter that will filter out PFAs and 58 is RO which inherently filters out PFAs, based on this link from the EPA: https://www.epa.gov/water-researc...educe-pfas (just to corroborate what you've said)

I'll be using your link to see which ones are validated for sure, and take what I've found with a grain of salt since I'm only just now looking into it and it's certainly possible I've misunderstood.

glad my info helped

Scary how some companies dont care about peoples health and be messing things up for us all... (Think Johnson and Johnson and their baby powder.... or the forever chemical from dupont..........) crazy. For my next home, i plan on doing full house water filteration, on top of a reverse osmosis water filter for drinking water and cooking water. sigh.
