Should be perfect. Seems skil is pushing quite a few 12v tools these days so plenty of room to grow it if you need.

Thinking about picking these up for my parents. I got them a cheap HyperTough set a few years ago but they're pretty garbage!

I wouldn't personally. Nothing wrong with the brand. I'd want a larger combo. Some kind of cutting tool is often very handy, and good lights and speakers will get used more than you might expect. I used both my Skil inflator and speaker today. Also, if going with Skil, probably best to go with the dual charging batteries, meaning it'll go on the charger if you have one or charge via USB-C.
I have both these kits from these deals:

Those were excellent deals/prices. The tools are great. Nothing wrong with 12v around the house or even lots of jobsites. I'd just wait for a deal on a larger kit again in the next few months.
Something to consider if you're in a house with yard you upkeep, you may want to match your power tools with outdoor power equipment to all use the same batteries. That's stuff like a trimmer, blower, chainsaw, sprayer, etc. and maybe even a push mower if it's a small lot. You'd want to stick with the big 3 (Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Makita) if you go that route... maybe Kobalt. But yes, it's expensive to buy that convenience. Out of all my Makita "power tools" I probably use the blower the most, and it's been extremely nice having lots of batteries for it. The vacuum or trimmer is a close 2nd and 3rd before stuff like drills and impact drivers. I reached for my Skil 12v drill before my Makita 18v to place anchors to hang some pictures a couple weeks ago. It did the job as well as my Milwaukee Fuel 12v drill would have done. Biggest downside of my Skil 12v stuff is its batteries won't power my Milwaukee heated jackets. And my M12 batteries won't power a couple M18 tools I have. It may not matter to you, but to some of us, being in a lot of battery lines is a headache at times. 4 is more than I'd like.

I agree. However, have you seen the price hike on the links you mentioned? Crazy

i have 12v and 20v hyper tough tools. the angle grinder doesn't inspire confidence but the drills are fine, and the 12v tools are great, and i also have these skil 12v tools but wondering whether to send them along. what issues were you having with hyper tough?

Funny you don't mention Ryobi, that has every single power tool you mention either in 18v line or their 40v. All of which are comparable to DeWalt and Milwaukee in power plus their selection of tools won't break the bank if you need a one off tool, like a soldering iron. For a home owner you cant beat the prices and selection.

I have this drill driver and it has been a great tool for projects around the house, but I found it wasn't strong enough for unscrewing tight bolts on a gutter removal job I was doing for my church. Had to switch to an impact driver (not this Skil one though) to get the job done. I will say, I'm very impressed with how long the battery lasts on this thing!
Edit: I just realized this was the 12V, I have the 20V.

Simply an oversight. I didn't think about them. I'm not a huge fan of them, but for the occasionally used stuff, they'd probably be fine. That said, friend has had a ~10 ft Makita pole saw for around 4 years now and a ~20 ft Ryobi for 2-3 years. He's had to replace the chain on the Ryobi multiple times and the Makita never even though the Makita is his primary b/c it's lighter and more powerful. He's definitely not your typical home owner. He's on 5 acres and has a nearly 1/4 mile long driveway he maintains pretty heavily twice a year. Same bar oil, same trees, the Ryobi just doesn't perform well enough to be the only tool for that job. Much slower cutting speed and the chain dulls much much faster. For the person taking down a half dozen 3" or smaller branches per year, it'd be awesome. Other than that saw, I have almost no experience with Ryobi's stuff, so I forget they exist.

The normal price increase isn't a lot, maybe 10% ($500 to $550 for the 10 tool kit). But they aren't on sale currently. They were a month ago. What's crazy is how cheap they were selling Skil kits for for a month. I wouldn't buy them at normal price.

Oh for sure. I have a brushed Craftsman 12V drill that I use a few times a month for smaller projects, and it's a perfect alternative to having to use a screwdriver.
