Don't listen to this guy.
They specifically recommend not to use bacon grease for the initial seasoning. Salts and nitrates being the reason why.
You can use any other high heat oil to do this though, but for the initial seasoning this works really well. Just did one recently with this and works really well. Even better at this price.
This stuff is pretty much un necessary. Most oils or lard would be just as good.

This stuff works well. I switched to this from Peanut Oil since it protects the griddle surface from rust better.

This is a good deal for this if it's what you're using... However like many recommend, flaxseed oil is the way to go. (you gotta look for it in the refrigerated section because people use it as a supplement) It's cheaper than most of this specialty stuff and typically works better.

Canola oil leaves a nice deep black seasoning. You can do that initially for a few layers of seasoning and then use healthier oils like avocado oil for everything after that. Also works perfect on cast iron.

the flaxseed thing has long been debunked (I bought into it as well originally)... but ya, buying this stuff is hilarious. it's hard to believe anyone would buy this stuff.

My current grill has rust on it. Can I take a wire wheel to it and then use this stuff after?

Seasoning with a heart healthy oil is a must for those triple smashburgers and baconator breakfast burritos 😆
