The DEWALT DCS565B and DCS566 circular saws have several key differences:
  • Shoe Material: The DCS565B has a magnesium shoe, while the DCS566 has a steel shoe. Magnesium is lighter and more durable, whereas steel is heavier and more prone to bending.
  • LED Light: The DCS565B includes an LED work light, but the DCS566 does not.
  • Rafter Hook: The DCS565B has a rafter hook for easy storage, while the DCS566 lacks this feature.
  • Dust Chute: The DCS565B comes with a dust chute, but the DCS566 does not—though a dust chute can be attached separately.
  • Bevel Adjustment: The DCS565B uses a lever for bevel adjustments, while the DCS566 has a turn knob instead.

I owned both, the DCS566 despite having a higher model number is significantly worse. That description explains it, but it also feels cheaper and runs worse—hard to explain the feeling.

weird. Lowes has the Model #DCS565B advertised as XR. https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT-2...lsrc=aw.ds
Are there two versions of model DCS565B? One 20V max and one XR? Looks that way to me, but I'm still on first cup of coffee

The 565 is a part of their XR line, there looks to be a DCS565N-XJ, but that is their 18v model and it's not brushless. Apparently the "B" just means bare tool, no battery included.

I believe the colloquial terminology is "worm drive", but I agree--I always used an old craftsman wormdrive and the idea of having the blade on the right makes no sense to me.

Good post.

You can also get the brushless hercules circular saw for less than half the price. Even the 7 1/4 circular saw is cheaper.

Home Depot has this saw (DCS565B) with a 6ah battery and charger (DCB206C) for $199. Slicker deal, no? I really don't need another charger, but $60 for the battery alone seems to be a good price.
