The condition of the devices is 100% perfect.
The only downside is that even if you do everything correctly there is a 10-20% chance you run into issues with their assurant trade-in partner and the customer service. You need to absolutely document the top shape of your trade-in device via video and make sure to document charging working as well.
If you run into issues, you will likely be able to fix it then. The key is that they take forever to approve, you need to wait 42 days before they will even look at it, and the best strategy is to right after the 42 day deadline to chat with CSR and ask them for "manual approval" before 2-3 weeks later they come up with some phony issues. So far it all worked out for me, but out of 10 trade-ins they wanted to charge me twice and I had to intervene. All worked out in the end but annoying, and I traded in "mint" devices that were absolutely working fine.
They will just make stuff up, from not charging to empty box to broken device to whatever. Many credible posts from other users with similar negative experiences. Again, once you complain and have documentation you will likely be fine, but it's annoying when you know you wiped out the phone via USB cable and software. So, there is a chance this could happen, but if you want to keep the device I think it is worth it. Just document everything before sending in!
The Samsung renewed is like straight Apple refurbished. Top condition. You will get a wonderful device at half price. The S5 will get you $300 trade-in and can be found for about 40-50 online if you need a trade-in. You will not need to enter an IMEI during the purchase.
