If you don't take Samsung's word on their Renewed Phones web site that they put in a new battery, there's a free app called Accu-Battery that will monitor several charges to 100% and compares the charged amount against the battery's rated capacity. If it's 100% of rated capacity, it's (functionally) new.

Buying used from the internet vs renewed from Samsung is very different. Renewed is like a new phone, 100% new battery, new IMEI, full Samsung 1-year warranty and eligible for their paid extension. So not even close to a regular "mint" on on the used market.

S21/22/23 will only get you 4 years worth of updates, the S24 will get you 7 years of updates. The S22 is widely regarded as the worst pick due to reduced battery capacity etc. Better pick S23 or S24 if possible.
Otherwise consider the S24 FE which can be found on sale with some pre-paid carriers at times.

Questions for those who had bought a renewed phone before from Samsung, how was the condition of the phone? any blemishes? new battery?

I've purchased a few and they were indistinguishable from brand new.

Is this even a deal? At these rates I feel trading in for a new device makes sense.

Feels like too expensive for S24 Ultra for 719 plus trade in. Should we wait?

same prices as with no trade-in. For folks who are tempted to trade-in because you have a spare old phone, remember, when they reject the trade-in for any reason, the charge back is $300. So, the total cost of this refurb would almost be more than a brand new you can get open market.

This should be an instant discount. Instead they make you jump through extra hoops sending garbage back to them

The condition of the devices is 100% perfect.

The only downside is that even if you do everything correctly there is a 10-20% chance you run into issues with their assurant trade-in partner and the customer service. You need to absolutely document the top shape of your trade-in device via video and make sure to document charging working as well.

If you run into issues, you will likely be able to fix it then. The key is that they take forever to approve, you need to wait 42 days before they will even look at it, and the best strategy is to right after the 42 day deadline to chat with CSR and ask them for "manual approval" before 2-3 weeks later they come up with some phony issues. So far it all worked out for me, but out of 10 trade-ins they wanted to charge me twice and I had to intervene. All worked out in the end but annoying, and I traded in "mint" devices that were absolutely working fine.

They will just make stuff up, from not charging to empty box to broken device to whatever. Many credible posts from other users with similar negative experiences. Again, once you complain and have documentation you will likely be fine, but it's annoying when you know you wiped out the phone via USB cable and software. So, there is a chance this could happen, but if you want to keep the device I think it is worth it. Just document everything before sending in!

The Samsung renewed is like straight Apple refurbished. Top condition. You will get a wonderful device at half price. The S5 will get you $300 trade-in and can be found for about 40-50 online if you need a trade-in. You will not need to enter an IMEI during the purchase.
I have had better experiences. There was only one problem where the screen had a slice (broken) thru the front. I called Samsung CS with explanation and my trade in was accepted and the trade in charges were permanently dismissed with little to no effort

Yep. Im actually about to trade 3 cars in to get 1 good one I dont have to fix lol.

For this phone deal, check Walmart site. I bought a pos from there for like $50 maybe 4 years ago. Its on that list for $300 credit. Just get 3 of those things and get a top of the line phone for $50 in crappy phone. Assuming this method works. I bet they cap it at 1 tho.

Currently on s22+, I have an old Moto g pure lying around, thinking I'll swap that for a S24+ and keep my s22+ as a backup.

There's hardly been any deals nowadays...
Hearing all the positive comments on the condition of the renewed phone is the positive! Wish it was the s25+ but I guess I got to settle for the S24+!
