Why not just get the beans already ground and put in a vaccum jar?

It is always going to be better to grind as you go. I have a Kitchenaid machine and a separate grinder, and it makes amazingly good espresso.

Pre-ground espresso will never get you crema. Even whole bean bought at a store or Amazon will not, because it's old. To get a top-tier shot, you need beans that were roasted within the last 2-3 weeks.

BUT, like all cheap espresso machines, this one has a pressurized basket. it means you can use any ground coffee in the espresso side and get a shot of espresso-like substance, but if you want a real espresso shot, you need a bottomless portafilter and a lot of practice. I don't know if you can get one for this machine or not.
