Dell doesn't have the best battery technology and honestly it depends on what he's going to school for. For a good number of courses a MacBook Air will have better durability and better battery life. Apple refurbished with the student discount will only run $750 for the M3, and will likely last through the full 4 years.

That really depends on usage cases. For me, I NEEDED a decent full-sized keyboard and Windows XP from a computer in college, and that's pretty much it. But I did engineering and it was 2003. Macs can handle a lot more windows software now.

But I WANTED a computer with a good graphics card. I'd get him a last generation gaming laptop with like an RTX 4060 myself. What is he using right now and do you want to enable video game usage?

You've got months before college starts. You don't have to rush.

Yeah... I love windows but I think a bad MacBook Air for just a little more will set him straight till he gets his degree and beyond. Hard to bead these days. 750-850.

These new arm windows machines are just as nice and I would not worry about gaming... Let him get another computer or console for that. I really think amthe MB air would be solid. Now... I am personally looking for a nice windows laptop like the surface to supplement my MB pro. I have an old sb2 that is 15 inches and Intel... But I am moving on to arm. Mac has a jump start and all software will work on it for the most part. Windows arm is catching up fast, but... He should not have any issues with the Mac.

How do we feel about the screens on these? Color recreation or quality is kinda important for my small business.

If you want grandkids within the next 4-5 years, get him a Mac.

I would say it is a decent 2 in 1 laptop with touch screen. The screen itself is not very bright and only 45% NTSC. So use in bright environments might not work. If you want to 2 in 1 and touch and your budget is $600 you are probably ok with this one.
