A bunch of us were wondering whether those vz "free" phone will really end up free. Looks like after all they are not, just slow in action.
I have seen couple of ATT free phones and some Verizon with one added DPP later. I did not think a phone showing as paid off earlier can't be tacked with DPP later but then again we are dealing with these big carriers...

I ordered an AT&T S24 Ultra on Jun 3 and received it on Jun 5.
The SIM that came with it wouldn't connect to the network. I made serious efforts through the AT&T website, the Walmart "activate" here site, and with an ATT chat rep to find any reference to my phone number to activate the phone. Nothing worked. Chat rep gave me an unlock code from the IMEI and I haven't heard a thing from ATT or Walmart since the original order.

I'll report back if anything changes.

(and yes, I unlocked, installed U1 XAA firmware, added a mint eSIM and everthing works)

If I initiate cancellation thru chat it tells me the monthly fee won't be prorated. Is canceling via Rep with buyers remorse reason the only way to do this? I didn't realize they were only available between 8am and 4pm CST so now have to wait until tomorrow if that's the only route.

I have been trying to buy one from AT&T by upgrading my current phone but I keep getting this error: Some of the information you've entered doesn't match AT&T records. Please try again. Any idea what can be done to resolve that?

Yes, the bot will mark it for cancellation at the end of the month just like CS reps are trained to do.

You might want to contact ATT and tell them about it. If they fix something try ordering again from Walmart.

I did. Just when I posted this comment, I talked to AT&T rep and she didn't know why it was happening. I can see it in the API response that it was saying SSN invalid but I was providing the right one. Moreover, the agent was more interested in selling the device through AT&T than resolving the issue

So the VZW is the one we would use to remove the Verizon stuff?

I see you tried it before. The ATT policy is 60 days so you should be able to get the code after 60 days. You can file a FCC complaint if they don't give you the code. But before that it does it hurt to try another CS rep. It varies wildly between reps with unlock code.
Well, I got rejected by another CS today trying to unlock again. And just when I was about to give up, I might as well try this sim swap trick one more try just for the hell of it....and BAM. It actually worked and I got my unlock code in 5 minutes lol!

Thanks for all the guidance you have provided to me and others on this post buddy. Really appreciated!

now time to cancel my line.

Check your address in ATT and Walmart account. Make sure it's auto readable by API's. Common mistake like below

"Stret" instead of "Street"
"Aveneu" instead of "Avenue"
"Boulvard" instead of "Boulevard"
"Drvie" instead of "Drive"

Leaving out N/S/E/W: "123 Main St" instead of "123 N Main St"

No the unlocked one https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-S926U1/XAA/ and you have to use patched Odin. See wiki for instructions

Thanks, if the XAA firmware removes the crap, why do you need the VZW firmware? Isn't that already on the phone?

No, I think someone has trouble updating to the latest android and I was replying to them. They also didn't want to use patched Odin and was only interested to get the latest android update
