See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.

FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.

I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

I ordered an AT&T S24 Ultra on Jun 3 and received it on Jun 5.
The SIM that came with it wouldn't connect to the network. I made serious efforts through the AT&T website, the Walmart "activate" here site, and with an ATT chat rep to find any reference to my phone number to activate the phone. Nothing worked. Chat rep gave me an unlock code from the IMEI and I haven't heard a thing from ATT or Walmart since the original order.

I'll report back if anything changes.

(and yes, I unlocked, installed U1 XAA firmware, added a mint eSIM and everthing works)
exact same situation here, let me know if you ever hear back from AT&T, I will too if i hear from them.

I have unlocked the At&t phone and now I am cancelling the services. Does anyone know if I can overpay the bill to use the Citi or chase AT&T offers and get the refund from At&T.
I have $50 off on $65 and $75 off on $100 on chase.

Just went to a corporate Verizon store and they wouldn't let me pay off the balance of the phone. They said it had to be at least 30 days first. I will just be billed the balance of the phone on my final bill after cancelling the account she said...

Is there any problem with cancelling the account before paying off the phone?

In general, you should not cancel an account which has DPP associates with it. They might send you a final bill with the amount you owed but I don't know if the device status will be updated properly. Is there another verizon store you can go to?

FEDEX stole my phone. The driver attempted to deliver on Monday but nobody was home so he left a door tag that indicated the he would attempt another. 4 days later the driver has not tried to re-deliver. The status of the package remains unknown on the FEDEX website.
Confirmed. FEDEX driver stole my phone:

I called Walmart and now I have to wait 5 to 10 business days for a 'specialist' to cancel the order.
In the meantime, AT&T had already sent me the first month bill of $125. I reached out to AT&T to cancel the device contract and the line. After being bounced through three different agents who could not help I was told to go to Walmart and have them to call AT&T Retail Support (800-334-3872) to cancel the contract and the line!

Quick question:
How much would be the final cost for the phone. Until now I have paid Walmart charges while order the phone: 40.50$ and paid off s24 ultra on AT&T website: 432$. Cancelled the line via CS chat and he mentioned that activation fees will not be applied and only need to pay pro-rated charges of 4 days.
My question here is Will I get a refund for the charges of 40.50$ which I paid at walmart.com? . How many day's it takes to get final bill amount?
Do we have a breakdown of the cost associated to get the phone?

Thank you everyone for your response

The payment you paid to Walmart is the sales tax of the phone you purchased. That will not be refunded.

Had a chat with At&T a week back and told them the charge of $109 is not correct as I cancelled the line within Buyer remorse policy, the rep told me the charges will automatically fall off by end of the month, is this some crap they are throwing at us or the charges fall off by end of the month as they say? The due date for me is June 26th so wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks

Did you actually make a successful overpayment? How? I am only allowed to make payment not exceeding the current billed balance, both on web portal and myatt app.

I actually called Verizon customer service to cancel my account, and I was able to pay off the $432 phone balance via credit card processed by the customer service agent I spoke to. Now canceling account.
