See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.

FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.

I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

Many don't have a way to accept cards. Sometime they are able to send a link to your phone for payment but don't count on it.
Ok thanks man. I plan to order on Sunday since I'm traveling tomorrow hopefully it isn't sold out then

Hello, need help, I got one new connection from Verizon using this deal and was fortunate to get it pay off by going to Verizon store on the same day of activation. After pay off I got the line disconnected and now waiting for final bill which is yet to arrive but agent was helpful and she said I have waived the fee. Now i shared the deal with my friend and he got the Verizon mobile yesterday via same deal. We went to the same store to pay off but the system says he can't pay off until 06/26. Today we went to the corporate store and those guys were pain in the and told us all together different stories that we have heard in forum. Now I feel bad because he is now stuck with this high payment plan (mobile plan) and we are not able to pay off. What are our options here ? Can we port this line to say xfinity ( I have xfinity mobile) and then wait for final bill from Verizon (not sure how much they will charge us if we port within one week of shipped date from Walmart ) . Does anyone have any success in talking to customers care and pay it off ? Please advise 🙏, we are in Atlanta if it helps
Verizon 1st month will be about $100 ish. $35 activation + 50 plan + gov. fee and taxes. 😮 💨Sigh....

Got the s24 plus from AT&T and am currently using it on mint mobile. The visual voicemail doesn't seem to work. It only works on 3rd party apps but there is not transcript. Do I have to flash the firmware/change the software from at&t to unlocked or t-mobile to get it to work?

You can port out to any carrier. When final bill comes, make a phone call to Verizon tell them you want to payoff. You will be transferred to a supervisor to handle it. I did it on Apr for walmart order on Thanksgiving. As regarding for the unlcok, this can be discussed when speaking to the supervisor. The worse case is the phone will be automatically unlocked in 60 days from order day. Nothing to loose though.

When you say "canceling the service within 3 days will result in no charge," what does the 3-day period begin from? The place order on walmart date, shipping date, device delivery date, or SIM card activation date?

When the line is activated which is mostly before the phone is shipped or during order.

Just ordered the Version S24 Ultra. Delivery is supposed to be tomorrow. There is a verizon store half a mile from me, but it looks like it may be an authorized dealer. Is it worth going there first to pay off the phone, or should I just go to a corporate store first?

The cheapest monthly plan I could pick was $75. Anyone able to call and downgrade in case I end up having to pay for one month of service?

You need to go to the corporate store AFAIK. At the worst, porting out cancels the line so you shouldn't be paying much more than few days of use at the end.

What are the cons of porting out vs paying it off at the store? Any risk of them blacklisting the phone permanently? I assume they send you a bill that has the remaining financed amount, the activation fee, and the prorated service fee. Paying that should clear the phone for the 60 day unlock, right?

Just trying the least aggravating way to unlock the phone. I don't mind paying the activation and few days of prorated service fee.

After my account got setup there was a $20 loyalty credit if I requested my ntp

but also for Verizon you don't have to keep active service for the 60 days (current policy).

So you pay off at the store and then come back and cancel via chat/or porting. If you do porting without paying off I am not sure but it's possible device payment plan is not cleared out from Verizon. I suggest canceling via chat as you have logs etc to refer back for bill refund etc. At any rate, once you activate the phone on a Verizon post paid plan, the phone will automatically unlock after 60 days. This should happen no matter what (if Verizon does not change their policy that is which is unlikely)

Good to know, thanks! If they don't let me pay it off in a store, what would be the best way to proceed? Do they let you pay it off online after a few days, or can you only pay it off after the first bill is generated?

Also, do they let you pay off the balance over chat or a call?

I think it's after 30 days for online payment. I'd try couple of corporate store first. You can also port out and then they should send you a bill with the amount owed and I think at least one here did that although I can't confirm if they got the rest of the balance in the final bill or not and after they paid it off if the device is in the clear.

No clue, I'd rather activate then pay it off, otherwise it feels too suspicious

So when you go to the Verizon store to pay off the phone, what reason/excuse do you give them if they ask? That you have bad service and want to pay off and cancel? That you want to pay off the phone so you can give it to a relative?

does it really matter? their job is to help you with your request, not question you on your motive.
