See the steps below from https://slickdeals.net/f/17077762-at-t-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-5g-w-added-line-or-new-customer-activation-350-35-activation-free-w-free-s-h?p=167181442#post167181442 (you will have to change to s24 from s22 if you want to flash unlocked firmware) but rest is same.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

0. Do the following steps after paying off the phone fully and then waiting for a day or so for the unlock portal to get the paid off status.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.

FYI for those ordering with ATT, activation fee on the bill can be waived automatically by clicking on "don't recognize this fee" on the bill on web/app even if it's more than 3 days. It's one time (every 12 months or so) favor from ATT. See wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0 for more details on bills afterwards.

I ordered online yesterday the ATT one to expect receiving it today. Called both the Ontrac and Walmart since there is no update on tracking. Walmart said it's not in stock so they will send once it is back in stock. Online already showed and still showing it's in stock. Now I will not be able to receive it any time soon and will miss the 1-3 days window to playoff and cancel etc. Too much hassle imo. now I am preparing to cancel the order if no update later today 😞. Credit pull loss

Finally i received end of 3rd day. it was memorial day holiday when i ordered hence the delay. Was able to cancel it 4th day. Will likely get bill including the activation fee which will see if can get waived . Thanks OP

So there is line activation and then there is phone activation. The line is activated before shipping out and your billing starts. The phone activation will happen when you connect your phone to Verizon network which is of course after receiving the phone, this is a must for unlock. The line is created when a Walmart employee scans before shipping out (if you are buying it in store they would scan it right away) which if not done might get you a free phone, you are on the hook for activating it on another new Verizon line etc to start the unlock counter.
Gotcha! Thanks for the clarification between the two types of activation! And from your explanation......it seems like a Verizon line has been activated because I've been getting Verizon emails asking me to download the app and all that stuff. I did create a Verizon acct online, but unable to link any lines to it because I don't know my account number or phone number yet.
I guess the next step for me is to get the phone, activate the phone. Use the phone with the new phone number. Go to a Verizon corporate store with exact change and pay off the phone. Then wait a day or two and use the chat function online to cancel the line and ask for a prorated bill? I think I'll be stuck with the $35 activation fee. And I'm ok with that. Hopefully, I can get at least 50% off the first month's bill since the line is only activated for 10 days or so by the time I cancel.

Yes, do link the phone number in the account when you get it. For the next time, when you order at the very end the phone number should be mentioned in the big agreement document. After paying off, you don't have to wait for a day, it should right away/couple of hours in the app that phone is paid off and you should be good to cancel. Also as the post mentioned in the last page you can say you got the phone only for a day and saw the signal is bad at home so that CS can waive the activation fee but that is YMMV

Overview Timeline
Bought Verizon S24 Plus at Walmart Sun 6/8 (paid $22.xx tax).
Verizon created account 6/8
Walmart created label quickly but took time to send it. UPS eventually delivered on Mon 6/16 (8 Days)
Note: I received the monthly bill before phone arrived approx. $107.xx
6/14 after phone arrived, went to Verizon web page and created account and linked phone (it was an eSim on phone)
6/14 made some phone calls to start 60 day countdown timer on phone.
6/14 Went to Verizon corp store to pay off phone. Was an hour wait but only took a few minutes to pay off phone. Verizon rep was going to let me pay by CC but computer system wouldn't let him (under 30 days) so paid cash $360.
6/14 (waited a few hours for computer system to sync even though I had receipt that PPD was paid off and showed $0 on account) and did chat with customer service to disconnect line. Went something like this:
---------
CS: This is NAME, how can I help you?
ME: Hi NAME, I received my new Verizon line and activated it today. I would like to cancel the line under your buyer's remorse policy. The signal is not very good at my house.
CS: (Something about trying steps to improve reception)
ME: No thanks, I think I will just disconnect my line under your buyer's remorse policy
CS: OK (went through steps to disconnect) I had to approve each step.
Line disconnected.
ME: Thank you NAME. Since I used the line for less than 1 day, and I'm canceling under your buyer's remorse policy, can you waive the activation fee?
CS: OK and waived fee.
ME: Do you know what my final balance will be?
CS: $72 (approx.)
ME: That seems kind of high since I used line for less than 1 day
CS: You should receive an adjusted bill in a few days and most of that should be removed.
----------
6/20 Logged into Verizon account (since line disconnected can only see bill under accounts). Final bill $22.02
Now, just need to wait until Aug 15 for phone to unlock.
Final price of phone:
Walmart $22 tax
Verizon $360 Cash
Verizon $22 final bill
Total $404.xx
Since your phone was stuck in shipping delay and you weren't able to activate the phone until day 8, you should contest that $22 charge and say you cancelled same day. I had like a $10 charge for 3 days of service but I didn't get the phone until day 3 and cancelled same day. Regular CS wouldn't budge so I went to their exec escalation team and explained the situation and they quickly wiped all remaining balance from my account. Anyone tried paying off the phone at a non corporate Verizon store? There is one next to my house that is Verizon branded, but the google info says it's website is https://victra.com/. I am assuming this is a third party store. Worth a try?

I'd not waste my time going there.

Ordered a Verizon S24 Ultra yesterday evening. Phone was delivered an hour ago but FedEx, and it's already paid off!

Went straight to a corporate store and was in and out in 5 mins. Took exact change in cash as their system only accepted cash. Received receipt and the online account shows as 100% paid off.

Will chat and cancel account next.

I thought that within 3 days it was automatic. I'm surprised you even had to escalate that! Mine was 8 days, not really worth my time to try and save $22 (and probably fail in any case)

Anyone bought more than one device? Did you add new lines or upgrade exiting lines? Bought on Walmart.com or at Walmart store? AT&T or Verizon? New account or exiting account?

I am finally all done with the Verizon S24 Ultra deal. Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread. Here is my timeline

6/19 - Order placed late evening
6/20 - Delivered by FedEx (signature required)
6/20 - Went to Verizon Corporate store and paid $432 in exact cash to pay off the phone. Took 5 mins. Got a receipt and 100% paid off reflected on the online account.
6/20 - Aboit 4 hours after paying off the phone, I chatted with customer service to cancel the line and waive activation. Transferred two times. Third rep waived the $35 and canceled the line. Line disappeared online.

Final bill amount confirmed by rep is $7.5. This amount also shows up in the estimated bill amount online.

So the total for the S24 Ultra is $432 + $33 tax + $7.5 final bill = $472.5

I also went through tcb and had $34.xx cb track for some reason. Not sure if it will stick since I cancelled the line, but we'll see.

For Verizon, it's all automatically done by the billing system if no Verizon rep has touched your account. That's why I always encourage people to port out to cancel if you don't want to keep the line, where the DPP will be automatically due in full on your final bill, where you can then pay off. Verizon rep will flag your account when they suspect that you just want to keep the phone for cheap and cancel the service, which is what everyone here is doing.

Everything on Verizon is pretty much self-service, where you can even create a secure link yourself to your email or mobile number to pay. There is really no need to interact with any Verizon rep, risking your account getting flagged, unless your account has already been flagged. All info you need below:

Yeah, porting out is automatic and does not involve talking to people if you are within 3 days window. Couple of questions as you have done this many times before.

1. How did you to verify that the phone is paid off when you paid the final bill. Is there an IMEI checker you used.

2. Did you create different accounts with different emails for each of these deals in the past?

1. I use sickw.com. You can also try https://www.verizon.com/sales/dig...adein.html
2. Same account alternating between primary and sub-accounts

I ported out to close the line with Verizon. The activation fee was not removed on the final bill so I had to call. The line was activated the 6th and the phone received and activated on the 7th. Line ported out on the 7th as well.

I did the AT&T deal and canceled my line yesterday as well. Now to make a second phone purchase, what do I enter on the Walmart site? New AT&T account or lookup existing (closed) line/account? Or something else. When I try to make a new account it says error processing and contact carrier etc. Existing account fails to get looked up, probably because I closed the line. Thanks.

On the Verizon S24 Ultra, I don't see any place that shows sim card status (i.e. locked/unlocked). Is there any way to check that once it's unlocked?
