problem with alot of these dryers is that they dont vent the humid air during the process. unless you open it several times, the air inside becomes saturated if the spool actually needs drying Ive seen a few pricey models that vent but nothing around this price range. hard to tell from the pictures if this one does
It has a hole with a plug at the top they call the "Moisture outlet" you can open up to let the humid air out. Since hot air rises, the hot, humid air will convect out and outside air should not get in. It won't be perfect and an active fan system would be better, but it should work. I haven't tried this model but my inexpensive dryer with a similar hole at the top dries very well and the humid air escapes. I live in a hot and very humid location but filament isn't getting that wet that there's condensation building up in the dryer.

This is an important note everyone should read before buying one of these. I had to return mine because moisture would pool inside even with all the vents open.
The air inside also doesn't circulate well, so I'd get hotspots. I couldn't recommend one of these

If you have an air fryer, you can also use that to dry your filament if the temp can go low enough.

Here is a good honest review on this dryer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK2-blXdCLw

Basically the pros are: high temp, cheap

the cons are like, everything else about it. The noise, hot spots, lack of circulation/venting

In my experience the best filament dryers are made by Sunlu and they arent very cheap but they arent much more than this either.

Your ideas are intriguing, which one and how do you mod it?

Buy just about any used dehydrator, there are mods for most of them on thingaverse. Check the specs to see what the temperatures, timer, and display features are. I use whatever is cheapest.

Unless you're using specific filaments like nylon a lot and live in a humid area then you won't notice any difference between filament dryers.

I set mine at 120f (50c) and leave it in for around 4 hours. An air fryer with a dehydrate function should be able to go that low.

I would only buy this as a ready-made solution if I were going to print directly from the dryer.
A modified food dehydrator holds 5 spools and is cheaper. Just make sure it gets between 50-70C
I print right from the dryer on two of my printers. The other two have the Anycubic ACE that has a filament dryer built in.

I have had this dryer for about a year, it's pretty good. The fan makes a whiny sound when running unless they have improved the design which is annoying, wouldn't want to sit right next to it but in another room it's fine. As far as I can tell it circulates a bit of air and vents out the side, I've never had a problem with moisture pooling up. But my house is usually 45% humidity, not sure how it would work if you live in a swamp

Is this good for monofilament fishing line? My line keeps getting wet, like on almost every cast.

why don't people complaining about venting add a hose and inline fan and vent it wherever you want, the suction will also create circulation in the unit.
