Based on the comments above I bought 3. I'm going to be the next Jimmy Page.

How are these compare to Taylor 100s series?

comparable spec-wise. Both solid top and layered body. It depends on the exact taylor model as some have different shapes / woods, but in general taylors are regarded as better. Totally a preference thing though. Go try them out if you can.

Seems like a good deal...would definitely have considered this if I had not already bought my Guild OM-250E recently (which turned out to be my best guitar ever).
Though not sure what the difference is between this model and the one posted here for $50 more (other than color):

Is this a good starter guitar? My music background is more on keyboard/piano.

Absolutely, just as long as the neck is straight, the action is nice and low and there are no sharp or dead frets. If it doesn't play out of the box how you like, (such as the action being too high) take it to a music store and get it set up. But other than that, yeah, I think this would make a nice starter guitar for anyone.

According to the web:

Epiphone Hummingbird EC Studio Limited-Edition — All-Around Rating
Category : Rating (1–10) :

Acoustic Tone : 6 : Solid spruce top gives decent warmth and clarity; laminate back/sides limit resonance and complexity

Plugged-In Tone : 6.5 : Basic but usable onboard electronics, suitable for casual gigs and practice

Build Quality : 6.5 : Good for the price, decent hardware and construction typical of Epiphone's budget line

Playability : 7 : Comfortable neck profile, easy to play for most skill levels

Versatility : 6.5 : Great for beginners or casual players, less ideal for pros or studio work

Value : 8 : Very competitive price for a solid top acoustic-electric in this style
Overall Score : ~6.7 / 10

Summary:
Strengths: Classic Hummingbird design, solid spruce top adds tonal clarity, affordable price point

Weaknesses: Laminate back and sides reduce acoustic depth and sustain, electronics are basic

Ideal for: Beginners, budget-conscious players, casual gigs, and players wanting that vintage look without breaking the bank
