This is not really a great deal, but it's alright for a normal sale price. Lews makes an okay product but nothing too crazy premium like Shimano. I fish left handed baitcasters as a right hander, it feels more natural to me instead of changing hands to cast.

There is no Shimano $80 baitcast combo to compare it against. Why bring that up?

When was this on sale for half price that makes this a "normal sale"? Or is this the usual "it's not a shimano" jump to conclusions?

It's half the price of other stores and gets good reviews. I'd try it if I needed another top water rod.

Lew's makes an excellent rod for all pricepoints. I've got trout rods for them on sale for 25 bucks, catfish rods for 50, and I've had the Mach 2 for like 7 years now. Back then I paid full price for it, and surprisingly, full price has remained the same since then. Don't listen to any nay sayers. Lew's makes an excellent product and at over half off a price that has remained consitent for years, I can't see how this isn't a slick deal.

Not only that, the slx is absolute garbage. I have more trouble casting that reel than any other.
