The Pixel 8 series went to seven years of support. Personally that's a huge improvement, and worth getting (similarly the Samsung S24 is seven years).

I believe he means that the phone has the ability to replace the battery easily, as opposed to the 9a which has a glued in battery that requires the front screen to be removed to replace. The 7a is easier to replace the battery making it an easier phone to work with for longevity as batteries tend to require replacement every 2-3 years for better battery chemistry/performance.

My BF bought the previous model and it died after two years. I have a OnePlus 8 that's still going strong in spite of it lacking the latest Android version..I agree that their hardware isn't worth investing in long term

You make no sense. I am still on a Pixel 3 and it works just fine for daily use. All my apps still work, I can check email, surf the web and text.

Flagship phones are solid investment. Low-Mid range are sluggish from day 1 and have you desperate to upgrade within 6-24 months. Bonus points if you get more than 2 years of updates.

My Moto Z2-Force is still pretty solid, outperforms my current phone (MotoG Stylus 2020), but is stuck on Android 8 so app support isn't there unfortunately.

I purchased a Pixel 3 for my daughter back in 2021 through woot!. The first one I received had a bad battery, was fairly painless to RMA it and get a replacement, but that was about a week of downtime. Battery started bulging about 2.5 years later, though hard to say whether it was from being used or being in the hands of a teenager who dropped it constantly and would regularly run the battery down to 0%, but the second phone did seem to have decent battery life for an old unit. I do recall finding a way to verify battery life/integrity through reddit, though I did not bookmark it and I think it involved going into the boot menu to figure this out, draining, charging, then draining again, which is how I found out the battery on the initial phone was dead (~400mAh).

I miss having the fingerprint reader on the back of the phone. I've had the following models in the past (always traded, never had to use warranty):

-P3
-P3a
-P6
-P6A
-P7
-P6A
-P7
-P9

I guess I was lucky that none of them ever crapped out on me. I'm looking forward to the P10, but I might splurge for Pro if they make a smaller size like the 9Pro.

The 7A still has a decent camera, but will not get updates much longer unless you flash a different ROM. Personally, I would not buy this at $190. Fair market value is probably around $125 because there are alternatives for old midrange phones at lower prices.
