I stumbled upon it by searching for the successor to Galaxy on Fire 2, and turns out it's the same company. If you like that game, this is a Roguelite version of it

I found Galaxy on Fire looking for a successor to the Escape Velocity games… did you like this one?

I did find Rogue Galaxy before, and it was like they took the ideas of a lone merchant/mercenary story, meeting contacts in bars, buying ship parts and upgrades, commodities, even a "expensive hunk of junk" spaceport that you can buy and slowly build up into your own, but somehow it still felt like a shallow imitation with a slap of new paint. I beat it, but I felt like there was no alternate paths and little reason to explore.

I loved EV on the Mac back in the day! This game is different than GOF2 in the sense you're not traveling from one planet to the other, trading commodities/ships, etc. It's a roguelite where you start out extremely weak, and it takes many attempts at runs to gain currency to upgrade your ship/stats. From what I'm told, Everspace 2 is much closer to what you described, but I haven't played it yet

They must be making a serious mint off of selling copies of this game to keep this deal going. Even at $1, it's still pure profit for the developer/publisher after GOG takes its cut, since no one is working on this game at all anymore.

Big fan of the old Galaxy on Fire games when they were first released, but lost track since. Recently tried to look up Fishlabs and even posted the most recent sale for Chorus here on SD. After playing Chorus for a bit I didn't like the story at all.

Now from your comment I'm just finding out that Rockfish, who made Everspace, are actually the original folks behind Fishlabs. I guess they must have left and started their own company.

Anyway, now I gotta try what Everspace is about and hopefully it's better than Chorus. Will look out for Everspace 2 sale as well. I have no idea how I never knew these games existed.

99 cents, why not? Maybe it'll play well on low power for international flights?

It's actually whatever the opposite of all that is.
