Search by username is broken

12,683 1,057 June 6, 2025 at 09:00 AM
Searching by username ("Posts by" option selected) was turning up no results for the past few months I assume since the redesign, and now only shows threads started by me.

This was how I followed up on threads I replied in.

Can this be fixed?

Thank you for reporting this. I'm not sure when a fix for this issue may go out, but I have shared this feedback with the team working on the search project.

Could you provide the search url that you're using to perform a search when you get no results and a screenshot of the search page?

I'm using the "posts by" option with my username on the search page (https://slickdeals.net/newsearch.php?) to get there.

This link used to pull up all threads in which I've replied.
Then for the past few months (possibly linked to redesign), it started not pulling up anything.
In the past week or two, it started pulling up only the threads I've started (equivalent to the "threads by" search option).

Checking in on whether I provided the info you needed to help fix the search issue?

If this can't be fixed, do you have an alternate way to see all the threads I've replied in?

Thanks.

Still hoping search function by username is eventually fixed, as I enjoyed the convenience of sorting by latest post and seeing the threads which have new replies in bold font.

I do think this feature will come back. I just bumped this issue with the team, so thanks for the reminder. Smilie

Out of curiosity, do your subscribed threads show up normally? I've seen some issues with searching by user as well, but my subscribed threads seem to show up normally (in classic view anyway). That shows all the threads I've replied to since I'm automatically subscribed when commenting to a thread (not sure if that's same for everyone or an option). And threads with new replies show up in bold at the top. Here's the generic link to subscribed threads if you want to see what shows up (again, I'm not sure how it looks if you're using mobile or redesign view rather than classic).

https://slickdeals.net/forums/sdlists/index.php?do=subscribed-threads

Edit: Actually, I looked at the thread subscription options and mine is set to automatically subscribe to a thread whenever I reply to one. There is also an option of "do not subscribe" which obviously wouldn't show you all of the threads you want if yours is set that way. It seems to work pretty well for mine to track new replies to all the threads I'm following though.

Repped, thank you! That's a good workaround. Mine was set to "do not subscribe," but I just switched it on.

Cool … glad to hear it might work out until things get back to normal. Just note that you might want to occasionally go through and unsubscribe from some of the oldest threads if you start racking up hundreds of subscriptions. I've been going for years without ever unsubscribing from any old ones and after I hit about 700 subscribed threads, it started occasionally dropping one from the subscription list here and there. It's not a big deal, but just something to keep an eye on if you subscribe to a whole bunch of threads. Smilie
