That thread doesn't give a complete answer IMO. The XLGs are an all around chunkier version of the Sambas. It's not just the mid-sole. Notably it also has a super thick tongue and lining compared to the Classics/OGs.

The best way I can summarize is that they're like a skater version of the Sambas.

How is the comfort level of Sambas for walking or everyday office wear? Will these thicker soles offer a more comfortable ride?

Most of the added comfort is coming from the increased tongue and liner padding and not additional cushion underfoot. I find these more comfortable than Vans Knu Skool and Converse Chuck 70's but I wouldn't want to be stuck wearing any of those for more than a couple hours at a time. They are very neutral/firm. The insole is garbage. I replaced mine with some Move insoles and it helped some.
