I picked one up during flash sale for my senior neighbor who was using a pentium laptop from many years ago that crawled like snail. He mainly browses, watches youtube and listens to music. For his use case, this works really well at a budget he was happy with.

I just hope this thing runs for few years without any issues.

Thinking to install AdBlock for windows 11 and use with a media center remote for ad-free youtube [without paying YouTube premium]. Anyone has a similar setup or anticipate any problem. Thanks
I don't have this box, just an Acer i3 from a prior Slickdeal I have connected to my TV. I use Chrome extension Freevee Skipper after uBlock became unsupported.

Is there any reason I should choose this deal over the ACEMAGIC V1 Vista with N97 CPU for 139?

https://www.amazon.com/ACEMAGIC-C...B0DYSDJQJS

or the KMRUI with N97 CPU?

https://slickdeals.net/f/18374428-kamrui-mini-pc-computer-intel-processor-n97-up-to-3-6-ghz-16gb-ddr4-ram-256gb-m-2-ssd-mini-desktop-computer-support-dual-4k-wifi-bluetooth-ethernet-htpc-132-98

From what I've read the N97 performs much better than the N150.

https://www.amazon.com/ACEMAGIC-C...0.Offhand.

They are basically the same thing processor wise. The N97 is a little higher power/higher performance part but not substantially so. I think the key is really all the other things. Number and types of USB slots. Number and type(s) of NICs. Storage and memory type and capacity. DDR4 gives you the advantage of being a SODIMM and being swappable but LPDDR should be a little lower power and faster which can benefit performance. Number and types of video outputs. Potentially, even types of power input as some of these can be powered by USB C. Some people might want a 2.5 SATA drive.

Anyone know how well this would work as a Jellyfin server, ie transcoding? Would this be able to handle 4k streaming? Multiple concurrent 1080p? Thanks
I use an N100 as a plex server. I also use it for a game server, I run one for Satisfactory and Minecraft at the same time. 4k streaming works great. So does Geforce Now and xbox cloud. For actual installed gaming: Minecraft, roblox, vampire survivors, etc work perfect. Fortnite runs, but drops a few frames, still playable.

Google "substack Adguard", one of the original developers still sells lifetime licenses (family edition includes 9 devices) for a discounted rate and it works on PC and phones and absolutely blocks all ads for YT, streaming etc. One of my favorite software purchases in recent years.

Not necessarily. Especially if your computer has unique hardware or bespoke oem parts. It can be difficult to find the correct combination of drivers and software that won't bork something in your system. The stuff offered on a support page to download isn't always the best either. Such is life on Windows. If it's a super generic box like this where generic windows drivers will do and everything else is well controlled by the biis itself, then yeah go wipe it to your heart's content.
Bespoke computer lol..... All the main companies release their proprietary drivers. It has never been a problem for me or anyone I know. Where have you seen this?

Everyone should be wiping and installing fresh copies of Windows for EVERY new computer period. All the bloated nonsense only slows down the PC and hogs drive space. And it's free and easy to do.
Sorry if I am repeating this question, but can you please explain to a newbie, how to re-install Win 11 on this? My first mini PC and I am not sure how to do that. I gather that i would need to re-install it with a digital key on a USB and would really appreciate on the steps required. Thank you!

That's hard to do because there are lots of depends.

Such as the windows license. If you go through the normal setup process and log into your MS account it should automatically back up your windows key to your Microsoft account and then automatically find when you do an install. If the automagical all works then great but to be safe I'd want to back up the key. There are multiple ways to back up the key from looking it up in regedit or running powershell scripts or using utilities to extract the keys for you.

For the reinstall there are multiple ways to do things too. You should theoretically be able to just go into the control panel and tell it to reset windows, no keep any files and download the install from windows and check a box to completely erase the drive. On my Mini PC from a different brand it said the reset failed so I had to create a windows installer boot USB key. They also partitioned the drive into two 250gb partitions so I wanted to delete them all and create a single partition.

For these things it's also probably a good idea to back up all the originally installed drivers just in case they have some oddball components that don't have drivers automatically installed by windows or easily available since they probably don't have their own driver download site for what ever random brand mini pc you bought.

It's not necessarily hard but it's not a here's all the exact steps you should do that will always work every time.

Finally got around to booting this thing up and once it got to the main Win 11 cumulative update it keeps hanging. Stays at 0% downloaded and upon reboot says "updating.. don't shut down.." but just hangs and never reboots. So eventually have to hard power off. When I turn back on, it logs in fine but cpu is spiked at constant 100% with windows update running - but doing nothing. Anyone else having this issue? Ran every troubleshooting thing and rebooted dozens of times, will not complete windows update and also using 100% cpu trying. Prob gonna return don't want to mess with re-installing windows and all that
