I'm assuming that this individual is talking about how one company makes a product and then a bunch of other companies resell the same product white labeled. Meaning that they are taking the brand of themselves and putting it on the product that is made cheap by another company. Much of the stuff on Amazon is white label products.

I bought a random knock off "Vizony" (lol yes that's really the name.) a couple of months ago and it's been great so far! Really solid picture and amazing sound. Purchased a chromecast to go with it and this was significantly better than the onboard smart apps on the device.
