Nice PWM unit, but IMHO, even at $20, it's not worth it unless you have a very specific use case.

What would be a good use case for this? I've slowly turned my old Honda element into a little stealth camper. I'm still learning and reading about solar. Thanks for any direction you might point me in.

Your best sources for anything solar are Will Prowse's Youtube videos and the DIY Solar Forum.

As for this PWM, any application where the incoming panel voltage is as close as possible to the voltage required by the battery. So 12V panels on a 12.8V Li battery might work, but with a lot of sun, those panels will produce upwards of 15V, which the PWM can no longer convert.

25V max for a 12v battery. 50V for 24V.

I bought one. My use case is I have an 11 year old Renogy CC capable of charging only a lead acid battery bank.

I've upgraded another battery bank with $130 MPPT CC and understand the advantages of MPPT, but don't want to spend the $ on one for this old setup.

The Renogy won't support replacing the lead acid battery with LiFePO4 when it dies, doesn't have BT remote monitoring.

So for $20 I can immediately get remote monitoring and support for LiFePO4 batteries.

I've got an Element I was going to convert also. When it comes to controllers (even though I use MPPT) it's not going to make a lot of difference here.

You're probably going to use something like a 100 watt panel on the roof connected to a roof rack. Either type of controller would work fine for that. The big MPPT advantage comes into play when you're using a lot more solar than what you would use in an Element.

Since it doesn't sound like you have a battery, you might just want to get a power station that has a charge controller already in it. If so, go above 500 watt hours. You don't want something puny for a stealth camper.

Charge controllers are useful for ham radio since the radios operate on "12-v" (11.5-14.7v) circuits. You can use these to charge your lead acid and lithium batteries from main supply or from a solar panel.

Buying standalone 12v battery units is 75% cheaper per amp-hour compared to fancy "Bluetty" USB battery backups. More importantly, the standalone lithium batteries have less noise than the fancy ones.

Can this charge controller also charge batteries if plugged in at home to 120VAC(with DC adapter?). Use case is for a portable battery box, a universal solar and 120VAC charging device would help minimize wiring I think. Thanks!
