Be forewarned, I thought the same. Bought the 256GB version of this before when they were listed for about $15.

Failed after 1 month of occasional use. While Amazon refunded the value of the drive. Lost the data on the drive which has far more value

Beware - this looks very much like a SanDisk Extreme PRO (which is a gold standard in performance and durability) but beyond the similar aesthetics there's nothing here that leads me to believe the internals are of the same quality. Buy the SanDisk if you want reassurance.
write speeds are advertised much higher in the sandisk though does it really get 380 mb/s?

The cheapest [ebay.com] I could find was $7 for a single drive. Looks like you can get a pack of 10 for $60.

You're absolutely right. The thumb drives are way larger and less portable. See the 2230 size m.2 enclosures.
Ok, so I have to buy a $20 enclosure. Then buy a separate SSD drive. Then I need to carry a USB C cable with me. And the enclosure is thicker than the thumb drive. Or you can just buy that super fast thumb drive for $25-$30 instead. Like what are we even doing here? πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

"mind numbing" that people don't know it exists? Aside from the absurd phrasing, how hyperbolic can you possibly get? Yikes shake head

in 2025, I wouldn't call "write speed up to 30MB/s" as "Ultra Fast".

Once you do the research and realize that a drive like this exists..... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C3B18PKTThen there is no worrying about speeds. The thing is superhuman. The fact that people don't know it exists is mind numbing.

That's odd. All the Samsung MicroSD cards I've tested have been able to maintain almost exactly what they advertise on the package. The Pro Plus cards had no issue maintaining 100MB/s+ from beginning to end (in the Samsung reader).

What specific microSD card is that? Can you screenshot a 50GB+ file transfer showing a constant 100MB/s write speed?

Well those are pretty cheap. I have had bad luck with PNY in the past but had I seen this last night I would have tried it.

Sure why not, in for 2. I have to upgrade 2 parental PCs in the near future (thanks M$) and this is a pretty cheap backup solution. I just hope the write speeds are better than the bargain bin Microcenter USB's I bought in the past.... those things work but they are SO FREAKING SLOW. I've been giving those away or using them for much smaller ISO images which is a waste of space, but those things SUCK to use on a regular basis
You're complaining about those micro center flash drives that they give away for free?
I've gotten dozens of them from the coupons they send all the time. You don't have to take them if free is too much and/or they are not worth the nothing you're paying for them.
Just say no

Testing a 256GB Samsung PRO Plus with h2testw: 244414 MByte tested, Writing speed 115: MByte/s, Reading speed 150: MByte/s. Keep in mind, this is with the Samsung reader. Other readers may not be able to hit full the card's full speed.

I do have it and it's fantastic. Read the Amazon reviews for a good idea of how fast it is. The only negative is that the caps on that flash drive don't have a way to be stored or attached to the drive. You can use small zip ties to make sure the caps don't get lost by attaching the zip ties to the thumb drive and cap.

I don't know if you have some golden samples or if I got a bunch of duds, but the Samsung readers are not even reliable for me. I got two of them that came from two different Samsung Pro Plus microSDs. The first one won't even detect reliably; i.e., it keeps showing up and then disappearing in Windows every 3-4 seconds. The second one sort of works because it does get detected, but if I try to copy a large file, I start getting errors. Other card readers and other devices work fine in the same USB ports.

They do sometimes give some away but I'd say 9/10 times I have purchased their USB or MicroSD at checkout. They are just so cheap I tend to temporarily forget how blah they are.

And I don't know where you are but the Dallas store has sent me maybe 1 of those coupons in the last 5 years. Usually they are for other stuff like BT headphones, mice, power strips etc
