This deal got lots of love the last time it came around. Anyone have experience w best buy open box laptops?
I bought it last time for $100 more for excellent condition. It appears brand new and we've had no issues. With some tweaks, we've been able to get an estimated battery life of about 9 hours.

I bought the Ultra 7 version last time (was $570 and then dropped to $452). Both said they were in "excellent" condition but came repackaged and both were missing the charger. The $452 one had a sticker saying it was actually rated "good", but Best Buy wouldn't give any discount for the mix-up nor the missing charger. The other thread mentioned how these are often the store models which makes sense cause mine had 6000+ hours of use on it.
Other things to note, if you don't pay for any of the Best Buy memberships, you only get 15 days to return it. And Asus will only give you 90 days of support (or perhaps less) since it's an open-box item. One that I purchased was already registered (and Asus automatically directs you to contact Best Buy about any support), and the other one said the warranty had expired in March when I registered it. Ended up returning both because it really wasn't worth risking it, and I didn't want to pay for the Geek Squad warranty either.

Thanks for that detailed response. Was hoping these are customer returns with little to no wear but it's a hard no if these were floor models.

My experience has actually been the complete opposite. I recently picked up two Ultra 7 16gb versions, one rated "Excellent" and the other "Good". They each came with the original box, plastic sleeve, screen protector, and charger. Honestly, the "Good" condition device looked just as flawless as the "Excellent" one. I also chose in-store pickup, so I was able to inspect them before finalizing the purchase.
Over the past few years, I've ordered around 10 open-box items, and all of them have been in great shape with no issues whatsoever.
In the end, it really comes down to whether the discount is worth the potential risk for you.

Genuinely curious...how did you find the total uptime of the machine. A quick Google search made it seem impossible. Only possible way I saw quickly was the S.M.A.R.T status of the drive.

If you download an app called crystal disk, it will give you runtime. I just bought this laptop yesterday and I'm returning it. This is a discontinued model, it's been out about a year and this laptop was on for 8,300 hours so it's definitely a floor model.
I actually have both. What do you want to know? They are very different machines.
Sounds good. Here are some things I'm wondering about...
What do you think of the build quality between the two? From the pictures, it seems like the vivobook pro looks sturdier and has a better hinge design
Is there a noticeable difference between the 1080 60Hz screen on the pro compared to the 3200x2000 120Hz Display on the s16 (i play mostly rpgs so not sure how much the difference would make or watching movies)? Considering that the screen sizes are 15 to 16in.
Which one do you think would be more future proof? Looking to keep the next laptop for at least 5-6 years
Too many of these YMMV deals... at some point it's so niche that there's little point in it being posted here. Majority I have been unable to replicate.
