I think everyone is installation driver out from the past few deals from HD. Lol. Ketchup is probably releasing a gen 2 installation driver with 3 led lights, and HD is clearing space for it. Lol
Did the "hack" on a similar installation driver deal except bundled with the power ratchet. Returned the ratchet the next day and cashier said I shouldn't being doing that, but would allow the return this time. If they don't want us doing the hack, why do they offer sales like this? It's in their power to change policy if they really wanted to, right?

I own the Installation Driver; I don't recommend it for MOST people. It is awkward to use, isn't really small enough to be a difference maker, the heads thing is just a gimmick, and the most useful head can be purchased via a $20 "Right Angle Attachment" sold by multiple brands (inc. Milwaukee).
My advice for most people is buy the common M12 Fuel Impact Driver + Hammer Drill combo set. The Hammer Drill in non-hammer mode is a fantastic regular drill-driver. With the two of them and then a single Right Angle Attachment, you've exceeded this tool by a lot.

I couldn't agree more. After using the installation driver on several jobs, it just couldn't compete with it's a usefulness of the drill or impact and I wound up returning it before it was too late.
The soldering iron was a serious disappointment and I regret not reading all the negative reviews.

"Just a gimmick" he says... then proceeds to misidentify the "most useful head" in this kit (spoiler: it's actually the offset)
But yes, the normal (gen3) hammerdrill + impact driver kit makes more sense for most folks... whereas this installation driver is more specialized (i.e. for cabinetry).

Yet I've owned it for five years and have needed the offset head zero times, and the Right Angle Attachment twice. Which, again, you can get for $20 from any big-box store from several brands.
People can do what they want, but you have two OWNERS in this thread telling you this is a niche tool you likely don't need and non-owners confidently saying otherwise. Maybe people should be careful who they're listening to.

My god it's because you can't follow simple rules. You cant return parts of bundles you can only return "free items" or the main item you bought to get the "free item"

I guess "bundle" was the wrong term to use. To clarify, I bought the installation driver AND the power ratchet (so 2 separate items in the cart) to get a discount, then returned the power ratchet at regular price. This is how I understood "hackable".

I guess that confirms that you're not really the target audience for the tool, which is fine...
I appreciate having that offset head often enough that the installation driver is what I keep 'in' my main tool bag, despite owning the gen3 hammer drill/impact set, AND the M12 Surge hydraulic driver (which I also like, and hope for a new gen2).
The front 'guard' seems unnecessary at a glance, but it offers a recessed magnetized bit holder for a couple double-ended bits (or drills) that can be quickly swapped - it's pretty handy in real world use when a project has multiple fasteners, especially near corners. Good stuff, as are most Milwaukee M12/M18 tools.
As general advice, when using these, use your middle finger for the trigger, thumb & forefinger along the upper recesses, along the drilling/driving axis. Helps steadiness, and makes it easier for your thumb to reach the forward/reverse button.

I bought this thing last month and I find myself using the offset head all the time and never needed the right angle head. I suppose it depends on the work you're doing. It's great for assembling things and getting into tight spaces. And yeah there are some situations where I could probably use an extension or something rather than the offset head, but you lose stability with those things. The offset head can be the better choice even if not strictly necessary.
I started with the drill/driver kit about 2 weeks before that. My first red tools. So good they convinced me to try the installation driver and the Surge. All very very high quality tools. Surge gets more use than the impact from the kit because I don't usually need that much power or the noise. Don't care much for the non-fuel ratchet the people are hacking with, but the fuel stuff has all been phenomenal. I also just picked up the new stubby impact wrench. I have no need for it, but it really slaps so I'm going out of my way to find projects for it. Having good tools and the right tools makes doing things more enjoyable.
I moved into a new house this year so there have been a lot of different projects and opportunities to use every one of these tools. It's nice to have the perfect tool for any job. I think there's a place for all of them.

I have the Installation driver as well and your right, overrated. The Bosch Flexclick or Chameleon, they might have changed names, is better.
I wish Milwaukee would add these attachments to the M12 Fuel Surge, would buy that in a heartbeat. I prefer the M12 Surge over the latest M12 1/4" impact. It has more finesse, so less bit slip, and more than enough power for most people.
