Been looking for one of these so im taking a shot with this one. Price is actually a little less than comparable versions with 100' hoses so it seems like a decent deal

1/2" hose… 5/8" doesn't sound much bigger, but it's actually 50% larger. More water, more water pressure.

Does anyone know what brand to get that uses more metal/durable internal parts? which one is built to last? Reviews I read on most models say they last about 2 years, and internal parts are all made of plastic.

If this is anything like the Giraffe Tools version, it will not be 130', maximum 122'. Be careful if you really need the full length.Why do I say this? I needed 130' but in their 130' manual, their specs. state the hose length is 125', plus 3' is reserved to stay in the reel. Measured hose length out of the reel was 115'!!

Not to be too controversial, but can someone explain to me the appeal of this product over a shrink/pocket hose ? I have seen many of these recently installed on neighbors' houses and not only do they look unsightly (to me at least), but they've all required drilling into the masonry of the front of the home, doing permanent damage to brick work. Pocket hoses which self-shrink after use and roll up into a nice, tidy package seem to me to still be the end-all solution for garden hoses.

Nothing controversial, in your comparison it's pretty much length. 80' in a retractable reel gets you across most lawns. 100'+ and you're all the way out at the curb. Not everyone needs to water that far out, but it's a great convenience vs daisy chaining hoses or manually reeling them in.
