The volume of a cylinder varies with the square of the radius. Going from 1/2" to 5/8" increases the cross sectional radius by 25%, and when you square that, you see that the cross sectional area - and by extension the volume - are increased by 56%. However, flow rate (what many people mean when they say "pressure"), according to Poiseuille's Law, actually varies with the fourth power of the radius. In this case, this could mean up to a 144% increase in flow rate, assuming the actual water pressure can support that increase in flow.

It won't.
More volume, yes. more pressure, no.

Not to be too controversial, but can someone explain to me the appeal of this product over a shrink/pocket hose ? I have seen many of these recently installed on neighbors' houses and not only do they look unsightly (to me at least), but they've all required drilling into the masonry of the front of the home, doing permanent damage to brick work. Pocket hoses which self-shrink after use and roll up into a nice, tidy package seem to me to still be the end-all solution for garden hoses.
Get whatever works for you. I don't mind drilling into brick, you can always fill with caulk and brick dust. However a lot of people will mount a post in the dirt, and screw this to the post, if that's a concern.

I have these types of hoses so I never have to wrap it up. I like it because other hoses were getting dirty, tangled, etc. I mounted mine high up so I could pull it over the card and not snag on tires.

For anything that is out in the sun and weather, double and triple check the brand, warranty. and return policy. Most no name brands will probably break in 1-2 years. Pocket hoses that need to expand and contract are more likely to break, though some brands are bound to last longer or be built better.

More water does not equate to more pressure. I am not so certain that you have completed your schooling.
There is more water and more pressure at the bottom of the oceans.

Increased hose diameter will not increase water pressure.
smaller hose does reduce the pressure and not suitable to use with power wash tools.

Does anyone know what brand to get that uses more metal/durable internal parts? which one is built to last? Reviews I read on most models say they last about 2 years, and internal parts are all made of plastic.
You'll probably want to spend more and get an Eley. I'm aware it is a little different product, but should last basically forever.
