Went into a Wawa and bought a $100 Amazon gift card.
It should code as gas, but we shall see.
I've used the WFA card to get food inside at Wawa and it codes as gas, so you'll be fine there, you'll get 3% at a minimum. The question is whether it will trigger the gas offer.
I have done back-to-back purchases at Wawa in the past (March), one gas, one food, both coded as gas and gave 3% rewards. On my statement they both show as:
"#### mm/dd mm/dd ################# WAWA ### CITY,STATE $.$$"
First set of 4 numbers is the last 4 of the card, the 17 digit number is the reference number, the 3 digit number after "WAWA" is the store number.
Normally, at BP, Exxon, Shell, will show their charge as like BP######### for a fuel purchase. I don't have a convenience store charge to compare to in these cases.
I did a Wawa food purchase on AMEX, to test if it would code as gas, and it too worked. AMEX's charge shows as "WAWA FUEL/CONVENIENCCITY STATE". Chase's charge (again Wawa food) matches the format of Wells Fargo - it too triggered the 5x gas quarterly bonus.
Let us know if this charge worked to trigger the credit.
I guess Costco and Sam's club wouldn't qualify according to this
"Purchases may not qualify if they are charged by a merchant other than the gas station, including service stations, marinas, fuel dealers, warehouse and membership clubs, grocery stores, car washes, auto repair stores, and superstores that sell gasoline"
Good news! I can confirm Costco gas works on this.
Did Royal Farms. First bought a $100 Royal Farms gift card hoping it will work, then did $35 actual gas purchase. Got cash back on gas only, $7 . Took two days to get an email.
