the cable length is nice but if you aren't in a rush and just want a short dongle as a handy spare these are only $1.80 on ebay from US sellers

(they don't use real tracking which is how they do it so cheap)

these are passive, active is much more expensive

Many cheaper ones will only do 4K30. They were like less than $1 on AliExpress and I got a couple of them. That might be OK depending on your usage.

Why does the reference image show a macbook with this dongle connected? Which contemporary Macbook has a Displayport connector natively in that position?

Lol, this is why I opened this thread. 0 MacBooks. Ever. They used TB2 (mini display port), back in the day, but never display port.

I can't even think of any laptop that had full on display port on it.
