Boost Mobile [boostmobile.com] has 512GB Motorola edge+ 2023 Smartphone (Boost Mobile Locked, Black) on sale for $59.99 + $60 1-Month Unlimited Talk/Text/Data Service = $119.99. Shipping is free.

This phone is now back in stock at Boost. It's a steal at this price still has better specs than most phones out there especially with 512gb of storage. I bought one on last years deal and was able to unlock it via one of the unlockers who were kicked off of eBay. Many didn't have the unlock codes yet back then but would assume their available now. YMMV. I currently use mine with Instabridge esim for 5gb of free data a month. Just bought another for my wife.

Note, on product page select "I don't want protection" or Boost Protect will be added to cart at $12/month.

Specs (source [motorola.com]):
Processor: Qualcomm SM8550-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (4 nm)
Display: 6.7" 1080x2400 165Hz pOLED
RAM: 8GB LPDDR5X
Storage: 512GB
Operating system: Android 13
Battery: 5100mah
Cameras:
Rear Camera Hardware - 50MP, 1/1.5" optical format, f/1.8 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size | Quad Pixel Technology for 2.0µm, Omni-directional PDAF, Optical Image Stabilization, 50MP Ultrawide angle (114° FOV), Macro Vision, f/2.2 aperture, 0.64µm pixel size | Quad Pixel, Technology for 1.28µm, 12MP Portrait (2x telephoto), f/1.6 aperture, 1.22µm pixel size, Ambient Light Sensor
Front Camera Hardware - 60MP, f/2.2 aperture, 0.61µm pixel size | Quad Pixel Technology for 1.22µm

Unlock for SIM is from 3rd party service. Custom ROM is unrelated, I just don't want to be stuck on stock software. Custom has everything I'm interested in and battery life is long. Stock isn't bad.
Yes stock is still nice.

If we can get unlock code from 3rd party right away, do we even need to activate?

EDIT: Just saw the terms. Need to activate with 30 days. Can we disable auto renew and cancel within the first month?

I activated the second phone it charges full $40+tax for plan even though it only charged me $10 prorated when ordering and only gave me 1 week of service left the billing is disaster with this company.
So they charged $10 for plan when ordering.
But when activated, they charged a full $40?
This should be illegal.

Appreciate you keeping us posted.

Folks on Reddit are saying that you need to either port out or call to cancel, so I'm very curious to hear if letting the plan die by turning off auto pay will stop them from charging for the next month.

the line will be suspended with autopay off and cancelled after next 60 days. It's Prepaid Plan when ordered Not Postpaid.

I let my plan die out a couple of years ago and didn't have any issues. It's prepaid, so they can't charge you for letting it die as that is the entire point of prepaid vs. postpaid.

The only thing I have seen is people getting charged for the full price of the phone if they never activate it. But once you activate it, you can do whatever you want with the phone.

From my past experience, they do enable autopay by default, which I was able to cancel by logging into my account. It doesn't hurt to use a virtual cc either.

They could mark it as stolen/deathbeat. Then the phone basically got blacklisted on all carriers.

Why would they blacklist it as there is no requirement listed for you to pay it off? The prepaid balance is for future service, so you don't owe them anything.

The only reason a carrier will blacklist it is if you owe them money on the phone, or maybe if you report it as stolen.

Because according to them, when you activated the phone, they added $40 plan service to the account balance.

Metro does this too and that balance is for the next month, so I don't think that balance should make a difference, but I don't have any experience with them blacklisting phones for that, so I'm not sure what to expect. Has anyone here actually had a phone blacklisted?

The prorated amount they charge is for the current billing cycle, and the $40 is for the next month. If you don't pay the $40, you lose service next month. You have already paid the prorated amount of the current month.
