I had a 3600 that would BSOD with a different stop code every time after entering low power mode. Issue was defective core. You can test by using Ryzen Master to disable cores 1 at a time then let it idle for 24 hours (I just have it play Youtube videos). If the issue goes away with the defective core disabled, you can get a warranty replacement.

5900 XT came out last year 16 Core / 32 Thread. 5900X is probably what you have. 12-core / 24 Thread.

i bought my 5950x back in november 2020 for $800... i guess the 5900xt is just a refresh of the 5950x, but with slightly lower base clock and turbo clock speeds?

Pretty much a refresh with like 2 to 3% performance difference, if at that: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Com...vsm2334382
I have a 4 year old 5950X but it started restarting randomly while in low power mode (e.g. idle state, locked screen). Turning off C states in BIOS helped a bit but the random restarts still sometimes happen. Hopefully the 5900XT fixes that.

Ugh. An odd chain of events led me to upgrade my 3700x to only a 5800XT when they hit $130 (bought it for someone else, missed return window, dropped 3700x in another rebuild machine). I had been waiting for the 5900XT to drop closer to 200, as they were sitting at 280-290 at the time. For Photoshop/Premiere Pro, the extra cores definitely would have been a plus... not that the 5800XT is a slouch.

Why? The performance difference between AM4 vs AM5 is not worth the upgrade atm. You can still have a performant, future proof system on AM4.

Apparently, a tiny percentage of Ryzen users (any Ryzen generation from the past to today) have problems with lower power modes causing BSOD, PC freezes, & restarts. Yes, turning off C states in BIOS could mostly solve this problem. I have this problem with my Ryzen 3800X CPU.

This is extremely false. This is about the best overall AM4 processor you can get, on par with the 5950X at 44k passmark the 9900X3D is 33% better single core and 27% better multi-core.

But the big thing here is future-proofing. I would never built an AM4 system today because you are starting from a disadvantage. It's one thing to upgrade an old system though the performance gains on this vs even my 5900X are minor at 10%, despite being a 4 year newer CPU.

The more comparable comparison is the 9900X which is a 25% multicore gain over this and a 35% gain on single code performance. You can get the 9900X for $150 more than this but much less on prime day coming up in 2 weeks.

Heck of a deal. I paid about $290 for my 5950X and I think I'm stuck with it for many more years to come. This might be easier to cool as well due to the lower single boost clock speeds, which is where my temps rise the most.

I would recommend a 360mm AIO if possible. My Noctua U12S (something like it) with the optional fan was not enough and temps would hit 90C. I have a cheap Thermlaright Frozen Notte 360mm AIO on it that goes for $50-60.

Sure, I wouldn't build an AM4 system today if I were doing a new build, but I would not upgrade a current build just to have an AM5 socket with the current selection of processors. I would wait for the next generation lineup of processors.

I agree but I just plane wouldn't upgrade a current build period unless you were on a far inferior processor which would likely mean you'd have to upgrade ram and PSU anyways. And at that point you might as well make a new build.

Like The difference between my 5900X and this is really minimal and there is no difference between this and a 5950X so if you already had one of those processors (or if you had an X3D which had a totally different purpose) I really just don't see the point.
