I had got the $1160 QN90D EDU/EPP deal from Samsung.com few days ago but that TV turned out to be a dud and so did Samsung support. So I am sending that back and getting this one instead with 5-yr Geek Squad Protection which will make sure that I dont have to deal with Samsung support after the first year.

Does anyone know any major differences between the two except that QN90C uses the ADS panel compared to VA/IPS lottery on QN90D for 85". The brightness seems to be just slightly lower but its already very high on a MiniLED and the color gamuts are the same.

Why was the qn90d a dud?

The C model has a max refresh rate of 120hz compared to 144hz on the D model. I own the 85" qn90c and it has a great picture. It gets super bright and has better than average viewing angles for lcd tv due to the ads panel.

The anti-reflective coating is different. QN90D produces lines of rainbows across the screen with reflected light, and it's pretty horrible in a room with lots of window or ceiling lights. QN90D is a VA panel and is a better if it weren't for that anti-reflective layer.

I have 2x 85" QN90C and a 75" and 65" QN90D TVs.
The 85" QN90D panel has a anti-reflective layer that creates rainbow lines across the screen with reflected light. It's pretty horrible in a room with windows or ceiling lights. The other sizes of the QN90D use a normal anti-reflection layer, and so do all sizes of the QN90C.
QN90D has better contrast with a VA panel and I think blacks are darker, and it and would be better than the QN90C in the 85" size if it weren't for that rainbow layer. The QN90C does have better viewing angles though with IPS panel.

It arrived from Samsung in a slightly curved/bent box and when i opened it up, the panel itself was bent. Found a couple of dead pixels when i ran it and then when i tried the dimming zone test, the pixels were showing strange artifacts every time a new zone activated.

Terrible, I asked multiple times for a replacement first (since i traded in an old TV for a discount) but they said they cant do it so I am now trying for a return with them while losing out on my tradein. They said the fulfillment team will call me within 48 hours to schedule a pickup.

So, per the /r/4ktv subreddit, only 43, 50, & 98 Inch QN90D have confirmed VA panels while the rest are a mix of VA/IPS making it a lottery for 85". If you ended up with an IPS QN90D, i imagine the differences would be negligible.

I have 50, 55, 65 and 75" QN90D. They're VA panels in the USA, BGR layout and pixels looks like the pics on Rtings reviews when taking a macro pic my actual TVs.

This TV is almost as good as the Sony Bravia 9 but at 1/3 the price.

I traded in my 85 inch QN90A for the 85 inch QN90D on the latest deal. Arrived last Thursday. I had gotten the free install so was able to confirm that the TV was working before the old TV was taken away. Picture does look better than the old model. Reflection handling from windows seems to be around the same ie not the greatest. The QN90D has the auto calibration feature which is great for anyone not willing to spend on professional calibration. And pairs well with my Q990C soundbar.

From what I am reading, the QN90C also has the same auto calibration feature, someone who owns it like taphil can probably confirm
