I bought this same exact item rebranded at harbor freight for like 9 bucks.

Are those plastic clasps/latches?

Yup, they are. Didn't the old ones have metal ones? I could have sworn that's what I have from a while ago.

Harbor freights are clones of the Stanley line. They're not made in the same molds or of identical materials. That said all I have is the harbor freights and the worst part about them is the damn sticker that they put over the opaque front! The Stanley is definitely made slightly differently for better and likely for worse. Somebody will chime in and give a proper comparison.

Stanley's clear cover is probably the primary upgrade over the harbor freight.

I like what the new Menards Master Force line offers:

Likely vastly superior to both.

These are great for Magic: The Gathering decks, surprisingly enough. This usually sits around $30 so snagging one for under $20 is slick.

If you can wait until the holidays, Home depot sells the Dewalt pro organizer that's quite a step up from this for 13$ DWST14925 it has a continuous hinge in back and metal latches as well as side clamps that connect multiple cases together.

I have dozens of the Stanley's and dozens of the Harbor Freight and can easily notice the difference in quality between the 2.

If you're not constantly opening and closing them, then the Harbor Freight ones will do for almost half the price, but if I can get the Stanley's on sale I will.

The hinges alone are enough for me to switch all to the Stanley cases. Then you have the latches where the Stanley's only have to 2 latches which works well (if they don't fall off, yes they've fallen off), but the Harbor Freight ones also have a little clip in the middle between both latches which some would argue adds more security in keeping the lids closed and secure, but it's rather inconvenient for me when I unlatch the latches and try to open the lid, only to have to lift up the center part.

Lastly, the clarity of the plastic on the lids are translucent on the Harbor Freight, where the Stanley's are completely clear.

So ya, if the Stanley's are on sale, I try to stock up.
