Just a couple of days ago it was $55. I ordered the blue pair and got it for $45. But it didn't come with the middle adapter, which just connects via usb rather than directly to the switch. Doesn't have any wireless features or battery - has to be connected to the switch to work. It's literally just a joystick with the buttons. So if you need bluetooth, or rumble, or gyro, or anything other than what you see in the pic, get something else.
With that said, I have the split pad pro and now the split pad compact. I fly often and I got the compact version so it fits in my bag easier. I only bring my personal bag, no carry ons. I love both controllers. Super ergonomic and comfortable. I gave my pro version to my 10-year-old and he was ecstatic. Pretty soon I'm gonna start playing Skyward Sword, which requires gyro, so I'm planning on ordering the mobapad joycons for that. I just didn't want to wait 2 weeks for it to come in the mail! Got the Hori on the 2 day ship before my next flight.

So if I understand the product, this is a 3rd-party set of joycons with slightly reduced features/functionality but which also includes an adapter for use as a wired controller?

Good luck!

The draw is the ergonomic design. It's third party joy-cons that are developed for people with hands

They're 3rd party ergonomically designed joycons. I've used this compact version and it is definitely way more comfortable than playing with stock joycons.

It's the most recommended brand of its type, but I've still had quality control issues and customer service is pretty lacking. They were definitely nice while they lasted though.

My experience is that they are much more comfortable for handheld mode than the stock joy cons, and even more comfortable than the stock joycons with ergonomic grips. I don't have particularly big hands (only about 8.75" span from thumb to pinky), but they are meaty mitts and even with ergonomic grips (the snap-on kind that give the joy cons a palm swell) I get discomfort after less than an hour of handheld play.
The HORI is stretched so there's more space to fit into my palms, and the ABXY buttons are bigger.
I haven't used the button assignment or turbo functions. I also haven't used it in wired mode.

The biggest downsides are: no rumble, no motion controls, and no wireless. There's also no NFC or IR, but I haven't missed those because I don't think I've ever used them.

Been using the Hori compact since last year and this comment nailed it. Switch joycon are a huge pain to use for any period of time. The buttons are small, the d pad and analog suck, it's miserable. I haven't tried many third party brand joy cons but the Hori brand are incredibly comfortable and meant for adult hands. I can finally, comfortably play my switch in handheld mode without any discomfort. It feels like a real controller.

With that said I'm sure they're trying to get rid of these to make room for some switch 2 Hori pads, so take that as you will. For people without a switch 2 or no plans to buy one, I highly recommend it.
