If you cannot activate it without the latest firmware. Dont buy it. Im lucky enough to have gotten my p1s with the old firmware. The old FW allows LAN mode. If you update, you printer will be locked into cloud mode. Aka all your prints and files must go through BL cloud servers. Not only is that a data security hazard, if their servers are down, your printer becomes a paperweight. I bought the hardware, I own the hardware, dont put software on there to take what I had paid away.Synology is doing the same thing. I left them too for UNRAID.

Read up on the current bambu labs firmware. YT users are pointing it out too. They tried doing some John Deere crap on customers.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, don't let posts like this scare you away from what is genuinely one of the best printers on the market, especially at this price point.
Yes, the new firmware does introduce tighter integration with Bambu Lab's cloud services, and for users working with proprietary designs or running commercial print farms, that could raise valid concerns. But for the average hobbyist or even consumer, the impact is practically nonexistent.
Most people just want a printer that works reliably out of the box, and the P1S (even with the latest firmware) delivers that in spades. It's fast, high quality, and incredibly easy to use. The privacy concerns are mostly theoretical for the typical user, and unless you're running air-gapped systems for a reason, you're likely already trusting plenty of devices with similar connectivity.
For most, it's a non-issue.

You do realize that just about all software now is cloud based and can be de-activated at the flick of a switch. I have had my Bambu printer for almost a year now and not had a single issue with their cloud service. It just works. I also have synology equipment and it does not rely on synology in order to do its job, only for updates.
New firmware doesnt allow any other sclicers to work with the printer. Yes you can manually put the 3mf file on the microsd card, but why. Operating on LAN mode means no flick of a cloud switch will impact my printer. I am the LAN.

Synology still allows "grandfathered" arrays to operate with non Synology branded drivers. But on what terms? The principle means they can change even more things. Alot of Synology core functions are operated on their cloud servers, if they flick a switch, or if Synology is banned from USA. We are all kind of screwed. So UNRAID it is.

Tons of great info in this thread for a crash course on modern 3d printing. What would be the choices for all the conveniences of out of the box good results like Bambu Labs, but without being tied to a proprietary cloud?
Sorry got ahead of myself and didn't answer your question.

This is with the orginal AMS for $699. The bambulab site deal is $799 with the AMS 2.
What is the difference between ams and ams 2?

Main difference is that the AMS 2 has a built in filament dryer. I went for the AMS 2 just because of this. I print mainly petg and my prints have been garbage because of high humidity. Getting the AMS 2 saved me from buying a separate filament dryer.

I just ordered the ams and it seems that people would recommend the upgrade. A few reasons I can remember that helped me decide: 1) design change makes broken filament changes easier. 2) Stronger motor (some others have said their motors failed) 3) built in heater

I sold my CR10S a few years ago after being unable to devote the necessary time to support the hobby. I figured this was a good time to pick up a P1S and see what all the fuss was about. I'm about 8 prints in so far and it just.....works. Loving it so far.

Nope. Do not buy. They steal your projects and worse, I'm sure.
Maybe maybe there's a concern that certain countries could misuse 3D printing—for example, printing weapons—but jumping to the idea that someone will steal your prototype design is a bit unrealistic. Not every design people upload is flawless or worth stealing. The idea that sending a file via Wi-Fi or cloud somehow leads to theft has caused some YouTubers to make wild claims without understanding how the technology actually works

My only complaint about this company/printer is the lack of support for the 0.5mm nozzle, which I consider one of the most important sizes. I'm not sure why that decision was made, but it feels like a big oversight. While this is more of a slicer-related issue, I'm hopeful it's something that can be easily addressed in a future update.
