What is wrong with the batteries? Is it just that they are bigger for the the same capacity or something else?

HP batteries have less voltage dropoff and can send more amps on demand

Darn it. I actually need a planar, and this deal is less than half what the M18 version would cost me. I swore I wouldn't add any more battery platforms.

So the claim at the original price was that you were buying a charger and two batteries for $322.94 and the planer was free. 🤔

Once you have 10+ batteries, it doesn't really matter that little amps that you lost.

I think it means that batteries + charger + planer was $322.94. That's how I usually read these things.

I have several of the silver cases 4ah batteries that are nearly 10 year old and some of the new generation HP+ and some of the black ones that come with this. The difference is nearly imperceivable. The old silver ones are the best even with all their age. I imagine the specs would say something else but in my HP+ brushless circular saw, they are my go to. HP+ are fine but for whatever reason the old ones seem to last longer and have a little more power. The new black ones work fine too. Just don't use the 2ah in something like a saw. My point, it really doesn't matter that much... especially for the homeowner who only uses their tools occasionally.

How does this planer rate against the others? What I might actually use this for as a home owner, to smooth out some warped 2x4s for a shed build project from wood that's just been sitting out?

Oof, that sounds like a lot more work than just buying new straight(ish) 2x4s or go ahead and use the ones that aren't too bad and cut the really warped ones down for where you need shorter pieces.

I was able to apply the 10% discount code from their monthly mailers for those who have an HD Consumer Credit Card. Saved $10... and free delivery to my home, better than a sharp stick in the eye!

Suppose I want to use some scrap wood, that's been left out and not very straight, to make a raised planter. Mostly 2x4, some odd 2x6. Would a planer like this be able to shave off enough to mitigate the warping? Not trying to get things perfectly straight, just less obviously bowed in the final product.
