I loved 2016 and am still trying to finish Eternal. Eternal has a lot of platforming sections that are not enjoyable and I also didn't care for the addition of the flamethrower. I will finish Eternal eventually but it will never get another play through from me like 2016 will.

For anybody that hasn't played any of the newer ones I'd start with 2016. However I tried going back for a replay after Eternal and just couldn't get into it. That being said there's quite an adjustment in game play going from 2016 to Eternal but if you stick with it it's worth the while. Dark Ages seems to be kind of a middle road between the two IMHO.

Dark ages is the weakest of the trilogy, Eternal was the high point but 2016 was an insane reboot

2016 was awesome. I thought eternal was a large step down but it was still decent. I don't think I like dark ages at all. I started it a few weeks ago and only got about 1.5 hours and I haven't gone back.

2016 and eternal are still really good games. Extremely well optimized. They'll play at 4K on really modest hardware. I ran 2016 on a 3700x with an RX570 at 4k/low and eternal on a 12700k/3060 at 4k/low.

Modern cpu/gpu should be able to do 4k/med or high without dlss.

The giblets are worth the higher settings. Some of the scenes are really disgusting in a really good way.

That being said, I regret nothing about spending $80* at launch for Doom 64 back in the day.
