They are adding 50% more ads for this $10/month tier (6 minutes of ads per hour)
I paid $8.09 after tax a month with no ads from December 2021 to August 2022 when they wanted to hike the price and limit the stream quality by taking away 4k and moving it to the higher tier. (I think I am remembering that correctly)
I doubt I will return even if it were to be $5 after all the issues with them removing content and putting it into the void. Peacemaker season 2 airs in late August.
Not sure why the downvotes, it's a good price for ad-free max. I just renewed at $139.99 (and that was only offered to me because I told them to cancel), and $25 cb via my Amex card.

guess the down votes are those who didn't get this price..lol, I too was offered the $139.99 price when I canceled but decided not renew at the time.
I asked Grok AI what streaming service offers the most movies and shows:
It's tough to pin down exact numbers since streaming libraries constantly change, but based on available data, Tubi currently boasts one of the largest catalogs with over 40,000 titles, including movies and TV shows, as of June 2025. It's a free, ad-supported service, which gives it an edge in sheer volume, though the quality and resolution may not always match premium services. Amazon Prime Video follows closely with around 21,000 titles, offering a mix of movies, shows, and originals, plus the option to rent or buy additional content. Netflix comes in with about 17,000 titles, known for its diverse originals and licensed content.
For comparison, other major players like Disney+ (around 2,000 titles), Paramount+ (40,000 with Showtime), and Peacock (2,000) have smaller libraries but cater to specific niches like family-friendly content or NBC/Universal titles. Max also stands out with a robust catalog, though exact numbers are less clear, blending HBO's prestige content with Warner Bros.' extensive film library.
If quantity is your priority, Tubi's massive, free library is hard to beat, but Amazon Prime Video and Netflix offer strong alternatives with broader appeal and higher-quality options. Check JustWatch or Reelgood for real-time catalog updates to confirm what's available.
I guess it depends on how you look at it. I've seen many people talk about not finding movies they want, and it blows my mind a bit, because the movies don't enter into it at all for me. It's the original programming I've loved from HBO my entire life.
It's probably not as stellar as it used to be, so I may be giving them extra brownie points from having that lifetime of loving HBO. Even when it was just one or two shows a week I wanted to watch - they were often the shows I loved most at any given time. Not quite as true anymore, but they have people like me over a barrel with nostalgia, I guess. I'm paying what they want (for now), and I'm paying to have it ad-free as I'm also used to watching without ads.

I get they have older stuff that is Nostalgic for many, but with so much new stuff these days to watch, finding the time to rewatch things let alone catching up on new stuff is basically impossible. We subscribed for a year on the last max deal. Watched a few things, but for the price, especially the 4K plan, is just ridiculous.

I get it. I didn't mean I rewatch the old stuff (we don't), we just like to have HBO on tap to watch whatever new stuff comes out that grabs us. There are a few things on there now we like -- nothing like the must-see shows of the past, but there is usually something on we enjoy and want to watch every week. I guess our nostalgia for having constant access to HBO and being able to check out the new stuff is what keeps us hooked. I used to be excited for Sunday night HBO back in the day. I can see a time coming when we may just churn it, just do it a month or two a year and binge whatever new shows we want to see. For now, anyone in my boat of just having HBO as being their longtime favorite "channel," this is a good deal.
