If I were to buy this game on one platform (phone, tablet, pc, video game console/switch), what would be the best format? This game is giving me similar vibes from animal crossing which has been more of a hit with adults in my life than the kids. Is this more targeted for kids, teenagers, or adults, or all?

I just started a new save on an android handheld this weekend on a short vacation. This is kind of the ultimate handheld/second screen kind of game, so I'd go for whatever portable method you'd prefer. I prefer it with controls, but I think it also plays pretty well with just a phone or tablet touchscreen. It's a chill, cozy game that's probably aimed more at adults than kids. It might be a little too slow for some kids.

This would be more akin to the old Harvestmoon games, but much more in depth. A true passion project. If you want some good games with a Animal Crossing vibe Littlewood and Dinkum are fun. I think PC is a great experience. You get your updates a little quicker, though admittedly they will be few and far between now. And they have great mods!

It's a great game, especially with friends. I do not recommend the Switch version. I'm not sure if it's been updated but my wife and I both had issues with the game freezing for a second every minute and it made some things difficult or impossible like the fishing mini game.

All ages past like 10 or so. One of the NPCs (maybe 2) has pretty rough depression but overall pretty family friendly title.
I would say PC because you can do a LOT of mods on PC that I don't think the others have. Graphics, different game play modes etc.

I had this issue but with my iPad and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Couldn't even get 10 minutes past the intro tutorial, so sad.

I know what you're referring to. My daughter and I had been playing split screen on switch and it had a little hiccup once every 5-10 minutes or so. It wasn't gamebreaking, just annoying.
Since moving to Switch 2, I haven't noticed it, or it's a LOT less frequent. There may have been an update, not sure.
Also, if anyone played this game back in the day and is thinking of returning, they keep adding TONS of content. It's so much bigger than it was when I played on PC years ago.

Getting it on PC allows for mods. There are some awesome mods that greatly expand the game, Stardew Valley Expanded probably the most popular. Adds new villagers, areas, and story quests. If you haven't played and "beat" the unmodded version, you should do that first though. The trade-off is that you can't play it on mobile though. tbh, I bought several versions of the game over the years, including PC, mobile android, and switch so it isn't a big deal for me.
There are some awesome utility mods too, such as chests everywhere (can access all chests from a single interface and swap items between them), item lookup (look at detailed info for any item instead of looking up the wiki for it), and more. I would highly advise playing unmodded first since a lot of these can be seen as cheats, but I tend to avoid obvious cheating mods and use them for convenience.
