Not exactly refurbished. Its manufacturer recertified, which is considered a step above seller/manufacturer refurbished.

Twice the actuators to fail? I wonder how reliability is on these. I am in the market for NAS drives but these feel risky.

These were $150 then $100 before shucking about one year ago.
"Costco has the Expansion 14TB on clearance now ( April 13, 2024) for $149.97 in Central Valley, California. SKU# 1760473 so you can call your local Costco and check local price and stock levels. CrystalDisk shows them to be Mach.2 Exos 2x14 ST14000NM0121.
I just stumbles across your post. If anyone else is interested, Costco in my area (Indiana) currently has these for sale for $99.97 (US)."

Not the sellers fault but these should be called 2x7 since its two 7TB drives in one. 2x14 makes it sound like it's 28TB. Does Seagate not understand math?
I passed on these and bought one drive. Since my drive is in a NAS and honestlty more speed isn't going to help me as drive speed is not the limiting factor, ny network speed limits my bandwidth.

How do these dual actuator drives work on a NAS? Any issues doing Raid across 3-4 drives if they show as 2x 7tb partitions each?

Thanks

I had a qnap 453D and needed a firmware update before it could read these 14TB exos Mach.2 drives properly.

I got the drives a year or two ago.

After firmware update the OS handles it still as a single drive (4 drives in 4 bay) but running mdadm I think you'll see the 2x 7tb

Edit: thanks TB not GB

pretty sure the sata version is a single drive.
you have to partition it correctly to get 2 drives.

the sas is the one that shows up as two drives by default

Two years ago, I would never have even considered a refurbished drive. But eBay had a deal that I couldn't refuse. I've been using it for up to 10 hrs a day for converting and compressing videos to x265. Some projects take several hours. In other words, the drive isn't sitting idle or sleeping. It gets a grueling workout daily for two years and it's performed flawlessly. All my future drives will be enterprise drive that's been factory refurbed

For those who don't know, eBay doubles the warranty on factory refurbished items. Yes, I know that that won't help recover data if there's a massive failure, but it's something to consider.

Really? That's awesome, thanks for the heads up about the warranty. Makes me feel a lot better about buying them
