Just picked up the base at my nearest Microcenter yesterday. $449. How do they consistently have the lowest price?

They're willing to lose money to get people in stores, in hopes they'll buy other stuff while they're there. That's why these deals are in-store only.

Lots of places do similar things on Black Friday, doorbuster sales just to get shoppers in.

Could be, they were pushing the service warranty pretty hard.

I declined because it will be sitting on desk

Oh I never get Apple Care. I am careful most of the time (knock on wood).
Apple Care is a waste of money. I don't even do this for my phone and it's always out of my pocket. Desktop machines def no. laptops I don't do either since seldom charge it and risk of tripping over it is very rare. I also always put my coffee BEHIND the screen if I am at a cafe.

It's not a waste on an expensive macbook pro (which can cost $1500+ to fix), but on a mac mini that'll generally just sit on a desk its whole life, not at risk of damage? No, it doesn't make much sense.

I suppose. 10% tax basically to protect it using the $1500 value.

I am surprised iMac wasn't more due to the display.

Yeah I think you're right. I'll say it was effective in my case - I haven't been inside my nearby MicroCenter in years (completely different now), and I was amazed by the experience. Compared to Best Buy etc - much busier, people were just hanging out talking about technology, conversations with strangers, demo stations that were cool and that were actually being used - I didn't know people still did this?? Reminded me of what I imagine Radio Shack was like in the 80's. The first time I'd say I truly enjoyed shopping in a store for tech in many many many years. Mostly an online shopper these days. They didn't get any other purchases from me that day, but I'll definitely be back.

Thanks for posting! I previously purchased the M4 Pro 24/512 model a couple weeks ago. Microcenter has a price protection policy and they refunded me $50! I'm a very happy customer! 🙂

Hey FTC! We need to investigate these shysters trying to sell $35 worth of memory and SSD for $600, and then labelling it for sale for "only" $450 over the sale price of the machine. Sheeple, don't buy this crap and maybe Apple will learn and drop their prices.
