Excellent tool. The 'Auto' part is just marketing. You can use this through the aux jack to make a old 'dumb' stereo receiver into a smart one. Quick, easy bluetooth/wifi/smart assistant access to anything that you can plug headphones into.

There's a workaround to prevent Alexa from making these kind of suggestions, including upsell recommendations.....

Wanna stop Alexa from EVER saying "By the way" and offering you a suggestion you absolutely DO NOT CARE ABOUT? Here's how:

Say to any of your devices, "Alexa.... stop By The Way". If she says "Okay, I will snooze my suggestions for now", then you can count on a couple of days of silence and will know that the command works. (The command will not necessarily work on ALL devices. If it doesn't work on the one you tried, try another). Next, we get tricky and get her to shut up forever.

Open the Alexa App and do the following:
1: More > Routines > New (the "+" in the upper corner)
2: Enter Routine Name > give it a name (I use "Shut Up"), tap Next
3: When This Happens> Schedule > At Time
4: Repeat=Every Day, At Time=2am (my preference, choose the time you want), tap Next
5: Add Action > Custom > 'stop by the way' (without quotes), tap Next
6: Choose Device: Pick one of your devices, tap Save

Important.... while this will apply to ALL of your devices, the device you pick in step 6, at the time you select in step 4, will respond when the routine runs by saying, "Okay, I will snooze my suggestions for now". My suggestion is to have this run overnight while you're asleep, but have it run ON a device that won't disturb you when it talks. I use my Garage Flex at 2am, since it's unlikely I'll be sleeping out there then.

By having the routine run daily, it should permanently remove the "By The Way" suggestions from your life, since each request gives you 2-3 days of peace. This will work until Amazon catches on and changes their software.

What can Alexa do better in the car? Now I'm interested... What an I missing?

My car's built in Google fails to understand a simple command like play such and such song. Fails way too often. Alexa hears me every time. I even use one in my side by side paired to a Bluetooth speaker. That thing runs at 8k rpms and it's as loud as a jet, yet Alexa hears me and plays what I want.

My smart home setup is centered around Alexa and the Echo system. I have had Echo Auto since it came out in both of my vehicles (now 2023 & 2024 models) because this device works better than any integrated Amazon Alexa I have ever used in a vehicle. Highly recommend if you're a heavy Alexa user. In for 2 as spares.
Is this different than using the Alexa app on your phone?

Essentially facilitates the back & forth communication without waking the phone and allows the microphone to be placed anywhere, as well as has mute and wake button.

What's the use case here if you're already using Android Auto? Is this just for say "hey google" vs "alexa"? And can it respond to and set up navigation like Android Auto?

lol… if that was a thing, the device in your pocket that actually has positional awareness would've already been used for this decades ago. You're the same type of person that said insurance companies and police were going to use EZPass to up rates and ticket… yeah, that never happened either.Take off the tin foil hat brah, it's boiling your brain.
yeah you don't control the software on this thing, and amazon is a lot more invested in collecting data than a phone hardware manufacturer, and a lot less to lose by trying to be sneaky with it. so they aren't the same and one doesn't mean the other. I doubt this is sending info to insurance companies, but unless their privacy policy says otherwise, assume it is at least being collected and monetized in some way.

I bought a used echo dot v2 on Facebook marketplace for $10 and its plugged into my HT receiver for spotify music. What does this auto gadget do and doesn't do compared to an echo dot? Just curious. Not knocking the deal.

Is there a reason why Carplay doesn't allow access to my Alexa App that's already on my iphone? I use Alexa throughout the day to monitor and control over 68 smart devices spread around the house. When on the road, it would be good to do this through Carplay instead of on the iPhone

WhatsApp (WP) allows me to communicate through CarPlay. Why can't Alexa App pop up alerts on CarPlay UI like WP? They could have configured the Alexa app to accept commands through CarPlay. For instance, "Ask Alexa to turn off the porch light"

Or could it just be - Apple wants to promote its own ecosystem and services, including Siri. Allowing a direct, full-featured competitor like Alexa to be a prominent app on the CarPlay screen would undermine Siri's role as the primary voice assistant in the car.

I just use hey Google on my phone now, but I used to bounce between using this Alexa (1st gen) and a JBL "drive" it was called. Neither was rock-solid.

And actually I'm still having problems, because now instead of Google Assistant answering on my phone, it's Gemini. And Assistant worked better for telling Spotify to play things, which is 90% of what I ask in the car. The adventure continues.

What a stupid device. Amazon is running out of things to innovate.
Not if you have an older car. Also this was released in 2022.

I think it does exactly that, but with a form factor more suitable for the interior of an automobile.

I actually have the Echo Dot gen 2 installed in my car since 2017 (can't believe that's 8 years ago, wth). About 95% of its use is to play Spotify with voice command while I'm driving. The Echo Dot has started to get flaky, really slow to start-up and sometimes failed to connect to my car wi-fi, which is the reason I'm interested to replace it with this little thing.
