Yes. PS5 SSDs should have a DRAM buffer for optimal performance. The console does NOT support HMB which is what drives like this one use instead of DRAM.

Worth noting that that stuff only matters for writes, not reads. But the lack of any sort of buffer can significantly slow down writes, and the drive is already below Sony's spec to begin with. Teamgroup is a solid brand and it will most likely still work ok in a PS5, but it will be noticeably slower than the internal drive.

For just $10 more ($17 if you prefer Amazon over what Newegg has turned into) you can get the Teamgroup MP44Q which is a 7400/6500MB/s (R/W) drive that does have DRAM; that would be my choice over the G50 for any application really. Don't try to use that one in a PS5 with just the graphene label though; those are meant to go under the built-in heatsinks on motherboards. For PS5 you'll need to get a proper low-profile heatsink to go with it (so add another $7-10 to the cost for that).

I'm considering this as a PS5 internal SSD upgrade.

Would this (with a 3rd party heatsink installed) be sufficient for a PS5? Sony says, "5,500MB/s or faster is recommended," but this is 5,000MB/s. Would that 500MB/s deficit make a noticeable difference?

I'm interested in picking up a few for a NAS. Saw it was the same price on Amazon. However, the 1 and 2 TB versions looked like they had some stability issues. No idea if the 4TB has similar issues as I couldn't find any real reviews. Tempting.

There's an in depth review on this of you search.TLDR 5000 mbs is enough. But you do want the heatsink.

The Xbox Series X|S consoles have 2 storage types. I don't know any kind of official names for them, so I'll give them simple names: "Xbox Series storage" and "Xbox One storage".

Xbox Series storage
This is the only storage Xbox Series games can be played off of. This storage does anything, but it costs a premium. It's also the kind of storage built into the Xbox Series X|S consoles.

This must be high performance, consistent storage. And it must be officially licensed. There are probably ways to get a special enclosure and flash/hack non-official storage to work. But under normal circumstances, you have to pay for the official Seagate or Western Digital external drives.

Xbox One storage
Older Xbox One games can be played off of this storage. As well as backwards compatibility games. You can also use this to store screenshots and game clips. And while you can't use this type of storage to play Series X|S games, you can use this storage to archive them. That way you can manually copy games to your faster Xbox Series storage when want to play them. Basically, this storage can do anything other than play Xbox Series X|S games.

This can be almost any drive connected via USB. 3.5" and 2.5" spinning platters work, as do 2.5" SSDs and NVMe drives. Faster drives do impact things like loading times, so there is value in getting faster storage. But, you can store a lot more on 3.5" drives, and that works great for archiving game data and videos.

Good to know, but where does that place it among its peers?

Does anyone know if this is double-sided or single-sided? I tried searching but most of the reviews for it are for the 2tb model which came out earlier and so can't be sure if they added NAND packages on the back to hit 4tb. Asking as was thinking of getting this but the laptop I plan to put it in can only take single sided SSDs.

I'm fairly certain it's single sided. Dimensions. 80.0(L) x 22.0(W) x 3.7(H)mm.
