I hope they got better speakers/teachers. I tried to do some free Oracle training during the lockdowns, and the speaker's accent was so rough, plus talking fast/mixing words together, it was hard to understand what he was saying.

If you are going to complain about accents, don't work in tech.

These Oracle courses helped me actually level up my cloud engineering skills and land a systems programming job doing IaaC with Kubernetes and Terraform.Great find.
Was there a certificate that covered K8s and terraform? Was it the DevOps one?

don't forget that before becoming a cloud provider, they were on an aggressive business acquisition spree, the latest of which was cerner. they have a huge portfolio of customers they funnel into their cloud.

would you say it's kind of like red lobster and their shrimp deal? where red lobster owned a shrimp manufacturer and made all the franchises buy from their shrimp manufacturer at their $$$ made up cost.

If you are looking at this as a career, your hopes will be dashed faster than you can complete these courses. AI is already writing code/programming so you are essentially coding yourself out of a market. Now, if you have a higher degree like a Masters or Doc, you can move into leadership roles. but keep one thing in mind.. long and deep experience will put you at the head of the line. also, there is no latest and greatest technology that anyone will be ready for since AI will have created it before your morning alarm clock goes off. Hate to be a Debbie Downer...

Tech world is very brutal. The sad truth is, most people can't endure this industry. I have a coworker(American/white) told me he wants to work as little as possible and spend more time with family(nothing wrong with that). He's been taking a lot of days off. On the other hand, my team lead, an indian on company sponsored green card program, works from 6am to 6pm and on the weekends. He takes maybe 2 days off a year. I had to put in 10 hours a day otherwise I will be put on chopping board too. It's a crazy industry. getting worse each year.
South Asians don't mess around with working and money. All the ones I work with are diligent, almost never take days off (unless religious), and they don't bring any drama to work. Whereas my American, non asian coworkers, prefer having a social life.

I'm not saying either is wrong, but on a team it's much better to have people that are reliable and present.

The move is medical or LEO...I think it's a huge mistake to focus on AI as a career. Just my opinion.

Why do you think you guys get H1B visas? Because you are getting paid less while asked to work more. Do you really think a Mumbai degree gives you more knowhow than a Boston one? For every H1B visa receipient , you have 20 more potential H1B waiting to replace you.
If you feel you are treated unfair you can always go back
It's the same in research...I know labs fully staffed with chinese and indian students where the advisor works them to the bone . If they disent, they are cut funding and replaced with another indian or chinese student

Are there any customers using OCI? I prefer AWS or Azure or GCP as they have 90%+ percentage of the cloud customers.

Are there are any similar offerings from GCP/Azure/AWS?

I'm planning on switching into the tech field (hopefully) next year sometime, any of these worth doing to that end? I have A+ cert now and working on networking and security.
Depends on your background. I switched from accountant, financial auditor to IT audit / advisory. I got 1/2 of A+, Sec+ and N+ then a CISA. Also depends on the job you are looking for. I would also look into one of those certs (google / AWS / MSFT) from coursera. Lots of people advised me to build a project portfolio on github to demonstrate my skills. You can probably use AI to expediate your learning.

Isn't OCI a bit of a niche in the cloud space? Probably not that useful for someone new to the cloud but could compliment someone already with another cloud ai cert and already in the industry
They got into "cloud" very late. Fought to be a contender for the gov't cloud. They still have a chance there.

Because they were late they became a cheaper place to train your LLM (like $1m cheaper per run) so lots of people go there to train their models.

I think their Linux is better than Red Hat's, and their support docs are sometimes much better, but Red Hat has the lock in the U.S.

We need to get used to the accents. They are industries norm now.

90% of my company's support folks and solution architects are in India and Pakistan. We even have Pakistanis calling on US business calling themselves Mike and Sarah, to sell them tech.

I would suggest you figure out what path you want to go down before you go into vendor-specific products/certifications of any kind. I am not saying not to do it but time is limited and focusing on what you want to do and how to get there will lead to better results in my opinion. I get sidetracked a lot but that's my personal struggle. Heh..
Any advice on choosing what path you want to go down?

Workers in India and Pakistan make 1:5 to 1:12 of an America worker. This rarely leads to lower pricing and often makes it's way to executive compensation.
In 2023, median CEO compensation at S&P 500 companies was about $16.3 million, up 12% year over year. Meanwhile, many companies increased outsourcing to countries like India and Pakistan to reduce operational costs by 40–70% in some departments.

I completely agree. Anywhere you work in IT will have some strong accents, if you want to work in the field you should get used to them. It is a learned skill to understand accents.Bear in mind that for many of my coworkers English is their 4th or 5th language. I can barely speak one. LMAO

You accept it because you have no choice, and your company makes more money that will rarely go toward your pocket. As far as customer satisfaction, customers are 10% to 20% more satisfied when working with someone that aligns with language and culture than a heavy accent on the phone overseas. You can read some of the case studies here: https://www.fullview.io/blog/csat...y-industry
