I feel like this must be a joke but in case it's not; Orbit is about the most common residential irrigation controller brand in the U.S.

Here's the (almost) same unit at Home Depot

There's two versions of the app. Free and $9.99. How restrictive is the free version of the app?

What? Really? It is pretty known and I in fact have this version and ordered another for backyard. App is not very simple, but simple than many other brands to use. Quick connection and no issues so far... installed for about 4 months. Can be controlled from anywhere!

How is this compared to Rachio's system?
My complaint about Rachio is it wants to run my sprinklers for like 9 hours. Sure it cycles, but.. come on. I don't want to use like 4,000 gallons of water on a watering day. So I end up just manually setting them to certain times.. so about the only 'smart' I use with rachio is if it sees rain in the forecast it will skip, not just if the rain sensor actively detects rain...

Extremely legit. Hands down the best system I've bought into for sprinklers and Ive tried them all in several houses.Free app, no paid features needed. Weather monitoring is great and its really a set and forget system that just works and works reliably for many years.

It only has a free app. The pro app is for landscapers who have pro irrigation controllers.

Have had this unit for at least 2 years possibly 3 and it's been solid. The app has been fantastic connecting with my wifi and has never not functioned as intended.

Love the manual feature to trigger a few minutes of watering when needed as well.

I have had this model for 2 years and had a different model for about 8 years prior to that (different house). They've been solid for me as well.

To make RainBird wi-fi compatable, you have to buy a separate $80+ module plug in.
Would the Orbit be an easy swap out ?

I have had a 6 zone version that looks like the modern 12 zone model for over 8 years. The thing is awesome. Haven't had a single issue.
