Very few IoT devices support 5 GHz.

I've yet to find a good answer to tapo vs kasa. Which is better to get? https://a.co/d/gAhW3oW

It used to be that Tapo was the cheaper brand with less local control. But Matter changed things up and now products seem to overlap with exact same specs. As far as i know, Kasa products work with both apps. Tapo products only with Tapo app.

I'm guessing the 5Ghz radios are more expensive, and I don't think the majority of IoT devices need the additional speed of 5Ghz. I like that my IoT WiFi devices are all on my 2.4Ghz band, not interfering with anything "human facing" on the 5Ghz band. I kind of think of 2.4Ghz as the "utility" band. I also believe the 2.4Ghz band makes up for in range what it lacks in speed versus 5Ghz.
While 2.4 GHz does not provide as much bandwidth, it does provide a stronger signal than 5 GHz. This matters because it covers a greater distance and can better penetrate walls, furniture, closet/cupboard contents, elephants (should they exist), etc. This can matter if the router/hub is in one location and the IoT device is on the other side of the property.

...and the amount of data a lightbulb/switch/etc is passing is very small And doesn't require 5g which is for decreased latency and in increased speed (where possible). But if you live in a location that has walls or trees, you'd rather use 2.4 for most iot devices.

Why? Currently have 7 installed no issues yet.
You should always prefer zigbee over wifi when there's a zigbee option with iot devices.
wifi iot devices cause wifi congestion and consumes more electricity during idle. Like when I had 13 wifi bulbs in my living room at one point -- even with VLANs my wifi signal (for like my phone and computer) was congested like hell.

Mainly bc zigbee requires a hub right? So the hub is just 1 "connected" device in the eyes of the router?
